If your running mate is an ambitious sociopathic predator, then I would hope that he would change some things in the White House. For starters, an official food taster.

How difficult would it be for the Secret Service to protect the President when the most likely person to assassinate him is the #2 guy?

I don't think Ryan is likely to kill Romney.

My dad's partner for a time, when he was a cop, was a Mormon. He and his wife had food stashed in unearthly places around the house. His wife once told my mother this must be difficult for a gentile to understand.

My mother was entertained at being referred to as a gentile.

From near the end:

It’s well-known that the CIA, FBI and, by extension, he said he assumes, the Secret Service recruit at LDS Church-run Brigham Young University. All these agencies, Balmer said, are “looking for people who are good, loyal, patriotic Americans,” and many Latter-day Saints, who believe in the divinity of the U.S. Constitution, fit that bill.

Does that have any impact on willingness to amend it or see it amended by secular (or differently-religious, more likely) people?

Emmie, really, how much does Romney's status in the Mormon church inform his ego and his sense of service? Do you have any way to tell? Could he have a messianic yearning to lead the nation based on Mormon doctrine?

I don't know. Why take the chance on anyone?

There are a lot of reasons not to vote for Mitt Romney, but his religion isn't one from my perspective.

I would think that most messianic yearnings inside the church would tend towards church leadership, like the churchwide callings. Also, all but a few church callings have a release, so he is no longer a stake president.

However, I can tell you that church leadership is one big long chance to face your shortcomings and "stretch" yourself (i.e. learn by making mistakes.) Anytime I've been in an auxiliary presidency it left me feeling very humbled.

One of my boys is sleeping on the wheat. By the time it was time to get him a bed, we were ticked at what they (the older kids) had already done to the furniture we had already bought them, so he sleeps on a mattress that is on a pallet that is resting on about 16 5 gallon buckets of wheat.

It works, and if he puts stickers on them, we won't care, although I did buy a dust ruffle to hide the buckets.

Do you have a regular schedule for rotating the food, so it doesn't go off? What do you do with all that wheat?

re: #7 Mostly sane, most of the time.

Emmie, my trust in your individual values is vastly greater than in the man running for political office that is Mitt Romney. I would hope that most folks face situations with your level headed humility. I'm afraid that is not the case.

Well, I was grinding it and using it in cooking (flour is, after all, just ground up wheat), but my grinder was making funny noises, and I need to buy a new one.

Also, something all Mormons know--wheat, unground, lasts a very, very long time. Other stored foods might go bad faster--powdered milk or anything with fat or meat.

Honey does not go bad. If it crystallizes, just heat it up to melt it. White sugar does not go bad, but you might have to grind it back up, because it will clump up really bad. Salt only goes bad if something gets into it.
