Australia's unofficial response...

To The Republicans...

They got burned last time with saying they were going to Canada so this time they picked an even dumber location, amazing derpitude.

Wingnuts have a real problem when they say they're going to leave. I mean, moonbats can pick any spot in more-or-less-Western Europe, and it's going to be, you know, socialist and stuff, so way cool.

For the wingnuts, the world is harder. There's the places that are far more socialist and nanny-statish than we will ever be. They don't wanna go there. Then there is the Third World. They kind of want to go there, but only if they had enough money to live on a gated estate, and that's kind of hard for most of them. And then there are places that just aren't healthy places for an American to be, and so culturally distant that they have no chance of managing there.

Like this girl, they do want to go there. It's just that they're so damn dumb that they don't know those places are far more "everything" they hate about the US than the US is.

Look at the pompous blowhard Rush Limbaugh, who said he'd leave the country if the ACA was still in place in five years. At where did Limbaugh say he'd go? Costa Rica, a country that has a full-blown single payer national health system.

Well, that's the Third World fantasy. He never intended to assimilate, or learn the language, or do any of the shit his ilk think immigrants to the US must do. He planned to live in a big house, insulated from everything by his money, so what Costa Ricans had was irrelevant, the point was the fantasy that he was being protected from having to pay a penny of his money for anything he didn't choose to. Wouldn't have worked, since I assume Costa Rica also has taxes. But it's a fantasy. One Limbaugh would never really go through with, but he could. Most wingnuts are struggling-middle-class like the rest of us, and couldn't possibly.

Surely this was a case of trolling. At least, I hope it was.

If she is planning to migrate to Australia, it's only fair to warn her about the dangers posed by hoop snakes and drop bears.

What I am really curious about, and maybe someone can help me out, why Australia? Is there some misinformation about Australia being a backward, gun toting, no tolerance for socialized health care, extreme fundamentalist Christian Nation?

How the IRS’s Nonprofit Division Got So Dysfunctional - ProPublica
The IRS division responsible for flagging Tea Party groups has long been an agency afterthought, beset by mismanagement, financial constraints and an unwillingness to spell out just what it expects from social welfare nonprofits, former officials and experts say. The controversy that erupted in the past week, leading to the ousting of the acting Internal Revenue Service commissioner, an investigation by the FBI, ...

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. 4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...
