I mentioned before on here when it seems Romney was catching up to Obama - I am not against people changing their minds. But politicians changing their platform day per day, per audience and the voter seemingly not fact checking and the mainstream media not doing much fact checking either and many times just repeating the lines politicians said - that bothered me - scared me even - in that in this day and age with Google and Youtube available - that people can be fooled by a politician who changes what he says and means days, weeks, months apart.

That is not what I expected from the internet age. I expected people to be UBER informed not UBER fooled in the info age of Google.

Did people want to be fooled?

48% of voting age (mostly old white religious) Americans seem to....

I'm sure you remember that not fact checking was one of the foundation stones of the Romney campaign. They made no bones about it; they weren't going to be silenced because facts got in the way.

Very, very good article I recommend it to everyone, read it all.

re: #1 Destro

And as the article states the fact checkers have themselves become a joke with their Pinocchios and pants-on-fire ratings. We have seen that and discussed it here. When they issue a rating of "half-true" to something that is obviously objectively false because they torture themselves to find some tiny nuance they can use to avoid flatly calling a spade a spade. They are so scared of partisan attacks and losing subscribers that they have for the most part become useless.

Besides which without the trust of the public in their product they effectively are useless, and for many they have already lost that trust. Hell even Snopes is doing it now, so now one is basically back to fending for oneself. Sorting through the ever growing mounds of partisan rubbish on the internet in an attempt to verify facts can sometimes be daunting. For someone lacking good reading comprehension skills and and at least average intelligence it may be impossible.

Where do those people turn when there are no trustworthy arbiters of truth anymore? Because less face it half the population of this country is of below "average" intelligence and they are never going to be able to find their way through the minefield of the internet alone.

That's the thing - it is the internet age. You don't need 3rd party fact checkers I was told. All you have to do is bring up on youtube what Romney said a week before the debate and then compare what he said during the debate and you can see him being a liar.

People who voted for Romeny seem not to do that and when they did they would somehow discount the 2 differnet view points because Obama was a Kenyan or somesuch.

And I have also (I don't know if you read my posts) posted a few examples of right wing pundits urging their base not to even own cable TV or read newspapers lest they be swayed by these facts (which are of course to them is always biased/false).

Until these people - forgive me - die off of old age they will be dangerous.

I heard the same thing at the evangelical church I attended for a while. Christians were not to mingle with non-Christians, or even with Christians who were not members of the same church/cult, because their faith may be challenged and their immortal soul would be at risk of spending eternity in hell.

Climate science denial and election-science denial are linked. When you go from not liking the conclusions, to not liking math and computers because they were the sources of the conclusion, you---lose.

You were going to lose anyway, because the `objective correlation of forces' meant you had little chance. But it didn't have to be such a face-plant.

The last hours of election discussion from Republicans were pure "black knight" Monty Python stuff. "It's just a scratch".
