According to Cosmo, he pleaded guilty to multiple felonies in exchange for a probation, encompassing all the charges brought against him, which included charges based on credit card fraud, identity theft, bomb threats, and online impersonation.

Emphasis added.

He got probation instead of prison time, and there is someone calling that harsh? Really? Thats bleeding-heart bulls***! Anyone who thinks not going to prison is "harsh" needs to STFU!

From the article:

"...You’re talking about a really bright, gifted kid in terms of all things Internet. And at some point after getting on the right path he could do some really good things. I feel that monitored Internet access for six years is a bit on the hefty side. It could sideline his whole life–his career path, his art, his skills. At some level it’s like taking away Mozart’s piano.”

Yep, six years is pretty hefty, but then it sounds like the havoc he wreaked was equally hefty. He's lucky he's not getting locked up. Actions have consequences.

What the attorney above said makes no sense. If Cosmo suddenly decides he wants to get on the right path and do some really good things, then he can do so under supervision, can't he? If not, then he'll just have to wait. It's not as if six years is his his whole life, and when his probation is over at age 21 he'll be so decrepit & out of touch that he can't start over—he can still access the internet and use computers, he just can't do it without supervision..

A one kid crime wave.

All in all, the kid got off easy given his crimes. Harsh would have been actual prison time, and he would have been victimized horribly. Justice served, with compassion.
