All noise, I'm afraid.

Neither the left or right wants an equal application of the laws.

It would be so much simpler if the US just got rid of the ridiculous tax exemption for churches altogether.

Want to preach politics from the pulpit? No problem. Want to establish a new religion worshiping you dead dog Spot? Why, go right ahead.

Have real estate or income owned by your church? Just pay your taxes like everybody else.

It's a totally elegant solution to a situation that now takes up far more time than it's worth. And there's not a politician in the country with the guts to even bring it up.

I call bullshit. The IRS has a court ruling to deal with. It calls for them to appoint an official to an office responsible for enforcing the rule. Failing to audit or enforce a rule that calls for an official who has not been appointed... Is "establishing a state religion"? Oh hell no. Whether a tax should apply has nothing at all to do with the establishment cause.

Freedom From Religion is an anti religion advocacy group made up of atheists. I am unimpressed.

You can call whatever you want but the fact is that there are tons of examples of churches breaking the law with regard to political influence and their tax exempt status. If you are saying that it's religious repression not to give your voodoo sect a tax break then it's I who'll be calling bullshit.

re: #3 Daniel Ballard

Why does them being made up of atheists have anything to do with anything?
