I think it is hard for folks who haven't been to events like these to understand exactly how non-peaceful, aggressive, crazy and self-righteous these folks can be up-close. They're scary, they scream filth and threats about Jews, and they've been violent on more than one occasion.

This is the origin of my serious animus for JVP. They stand with their cute signs with doves on them, and pretend they don't see or hear what their 'allies' are doing. Then they complain about the 'hate' coming from a dozen people who dared show up to challenge their narrative.

Scary to listen to that: "Zionist scum your time has come." Meaning what? All "Zionist scum" should die? I wouldn't want to be facing those demonstrators.

Not all "Anti-Zionism" is "Anti-Semitism" but "Anti-Zionism" is a dog whistle for Anti-Semites.

I think these people & the Gellar goons ought to be set on each other (Heck, I'd pay to see it! Bring popcorn!). They're pretty much the flipside of each other.

Not all criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism. 'Anti-Zionism' tends to come with a big ol' package of nasty attitudes.

Apparently acting to defend your nation from hostile artillery barrages is "racist".

This is the racism on the left I have been talking about for years.

You can discuss zionist/Jew all you want.

This is racism and antisemitism, straight up.

I don't scare easy, but this scares me.

That's code for "death to the Jews."

What does Peace Activism Looks Like in San Francisco?

It looks like antisemitism to me.

Warning from history: As witnesses die, will the Holocaust be forgotten?
This was not a fun article to read, but I think it's important--necessary even. Sometimes almost nothing is known to tell the stories of lives that were not lived, except a name. As Yishai Szekely - a doctor who serves as a reserve officer in an artillery unit - explains, in some families first-hand memories are passed down. There are photographs or books and ...

Why people don’t believe science
Here's a fascinating article my iPad's news aggregator discovered for me this morning: The Science of Why We Don't Believe Science. It's a lot of things: identity, previous knowledge, fear and a pile of other factors. But we humans are more often rationalizing animals than rational ones.

Autopsy on GOP Social Issues Is ‘Grossly Overstated’ Say GOP Lawmakers
House Republicans flexed their cultural and conservative muscles Tuesday, passing the most restrictive abortion measure in years. They also advanced legislation to crack down on immigrants living illegally in the country, even as senators pursue a plan that would offer those same millions a shot at citizenship. The actions reflect a roiling debate among Republicans over why they lost two elections to President Barack ...

President Barack Obama is expected to use his speech at the iconic Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday to renew calls for a reduction in nuclear weapons. It is not the first time the president has called for a reduction in stockpiles, but by addressing the issue in a major foreign speech, Obama is hoping to rekindle the issue, which was at the center of his ...

Jack Shafer: Snowden vs the Dragons
Reuters: But even the press in aggregate is not a friend to whistle-blowers, as its recent treatment of Snowden attests, what with the deep dives into his teen years (including photos), his education and employment history, his reputation as a loner and a “brainiac,” his pants-down hijinks, his online scribblings, his dancer girlfriend, his predilection for (in his own words) “post-coital Krispy Kremes.” Squeezing ...

Baker’s Graduation Cake Mix-Up Ends in Purr-fect Mistake
When Laura Gambrel, 22, of Zionsville, Ind., graduated from Indiana University in May, she wanted to keep the celebration pretty low key. She didn’t walk at the ceremony, nor did she have a party because she planned to go right back to the university this coming fall for grad school. It seemed only fitting then that the one thing her mother attempted to do ...

Study: Reading Fiction Makes People Comfortable With Ambiguity
Are you uncomfortable with ambiguity? It's a common condition, but a highly problematic one. The compulsion to quell that unease can inspire snap judgments, rigid thinking, and bad decision-making. Fortunately, new research suggests a simple antidote for this affliction: Read more literary fiction. A trio of University of Toronto scholars, led by psychologist Maja Djikic, report that people who have just read a short ...

 Frank says:

Ever try to have a conversation with someone on drugs? It just doesn't work... -- Sometime during the summer of 1987, when asked by a DC reporter, "what are your feelings on the war on drugs?" His first response was to criticize the inherent invasion of privacy, followed by the above statement against drug use.
