Good article with solid logical points.

Now he just needs to reduce it to a snappy 10 word or less "soundbite" that will get play on the news and he will be all good to go. :(

The maps also don't reflect the fact that Israel withdrew completely from Gaza and removed all the settlements there. That does not fit with the image of a steady expansion of Israeli control.

The main problem with the maps, as I see it, is that they reflect the assumption that Palestinian-Arab national control is the natural state of affairs for the territory and thus that all of Israel is "occupied Palestine."

Nevertheless, I don't think it can be denied that the policy of settlements has had the effect of restricting the movement and possibility of self-governance for Palestinian Arabs. If you think of the map as showing not political control but rather where one can freely go and live as an Arab, then it probably is a lot closer to the truth.

The map of "Palestine" in 1946 conveniently does not include Jordan which was also part of the territory of Palestine before the British turned it into the Hashemite Kingdom. I guess it's a Jew-thing.

We, the royal 'we' of the ragtag ensemble of Zionists are very familiar with those misleading maps. They are presented as facts without substantiation. Candy for the Israel and Jew bashing crowd, that is passed out to the unsuspecting and uncritical public.

Speaking of Mondoweiss, I noticed their twittter feed is one of 3 English-language twitter feeds followed by @AlqassamBrigade. Nice.

Actually, in 1947 the word “Palestinian” -- if it meant anything at all -- referred to Jews living in Palestine. The Palestine Post (now the Jerusalem Post) was the Jewish English-language newspaper. The Palestine Orchestra (now the Israel Philharmonic) was a Jewish orchestra, filled to overflowing with Holocaust survivors. The United Palestine Appeal, an American charity, raised money to resettle homeless Jews from Europe in Palestine -- one of the things Arabs objected to the most.

Arabs living in the territory of Palestine were called “Arabs”

The famous UN Resolution 242, which ended the 1967 Six-Day War, makes no reference to Palestinians, but just refers to “refugees.”

Pre-1947 there were no where near 4.7 million Arabs in Israel. Especially if your leave out the population of Trans Jordan.

The partition plan adopted by the United Nations on November 29th 1947 was rejected wholesale by the Arabs. Why should they take some, when they planned on stealing the whole?

That offer, the partition plan adopted by the United Nations on November 29th 1947 was rejected and has now expired. That offer, the partition plan adopted by the United Nations on November 29th 1947 was rejected and is null and void.

In no interpretation of International law or common sense is that offer held for the people who rejected it, and tried to steal it and more through planned ethnic cleansing.

The use of the Palestinian flag on the Twitter image is the most misleading. It implies that in 1946 there was an independent state of Palestine, when in fact the region was administered by Great Britain.

How can anyone look at these maps and not see a protest against where Jews are living? It is a map showing the failure of ethnic cleansing, not the success. A million + Arabs live in the area that is depicted as Arab free.

How many Jews live in the area under the Palestinian flag colors?

Given their way, the forth map would be Judenfrei.

That is supporting ethnic cleansing.

Also, Israel will never vacate the settlements. Ever.

They vacated all the settlements in Gaza in 2005. What happened after that?

Some 'settlements' are actually cities that have been in existence for over 40 years. These will probably stay, and there's no reason for them to be dismantled. Then there are outposts, a few trailers on a hill. I suspect these are negotiable. The idea of land swaps has been on the table for, it seems, about two years. The problem, no one is sitting on the other side of the table.

The fact is that Israel beat Jordan and then annexed the West Bank and has been unilaterally throwing Palestinians out by government decree - despite almost universal global agreement it's illegal, and if any other government in the world was doing the same thing, Israel supporters would be the first to be apoplectic about it.

But Israel gets a pass for its ethnic cleansing.

There is no ethnic cleansing whatsoever. If there were, the Palestinians would not exist. Instead there are more Palestinians today than EVER before. Find a new way to frame the BS argument.

re: #12 JEA62

Do you need a citation? That's just not true. They have not annexed the West Bank.

So, in other words, Palestine will be nation fractured by cities, with checkpoints choking cities from one another?

I'm under the impression that the last map of the 4 is the one that the Israeli Gov't wants to have for Palestine. A bunch of choked of little areas unable to move.

And what land swaps?

Big fertile areas for useless, worthless deserts? Unless I am mistaken on that.

None of these maps are Israeli government maps.

"Mutually agreed upon" land swaps (that means both sides get to decide what land they will swap.)

It is generally understood that Israel wishes to keep the Jewish-populated areas around Jerusalem.

The smaller, more remote settlements will have to be evacuated, or allowed to remain as Palestinian citizens. Unless you think that Palestine must be completely Jew-free.

re: #17 Vicious Babushka

So, will the Arabs in Israel get a little more attention then? Cause, right now they don't get nearly the funding for schooling, or damn near anything else.

Most of the West Bank will need to be conceded, and the land swaps will be 1-1.
