The oddity of the Republican response to what happened in Benghazi is partly this focus on half-baked conspiracy theories rather than on the real evidence of failures by the State Department, Pentagon and CIA in protecting the Benghazi mission.

A feature not a bug. Obviously none of the Teabags in Congress give a flying sh$t about the attack itself or those killed or injured or how security at our embassies might be improved.

What we do know is that more than 80 of the signatories are white males, and nearly half are from states of the former Confederacy.

This is extremely shrill and requires I clutch my pearls as I faint on the nearest couch. /

Let's see who/what else the right has gone after:

Shirley Sherrod
Van Jones
ACORN
Valerie Jarrett

Now lemme think...what do all these things have in common.

It'll come to me.

I'm truly surprised the hordes at WND and Faux haven't blown their collective gasket about this editorial bringing up the former Conferate states of Amercia. 'Waving the bloody flag'!!

OK, with me, though.

Now they notice that the TPGOP is unhinged?

Apparently Republicans aren't the only ones who don't pay much attention to reality.

Yeah they're a little slow catching on. Baby steps.

For members of the House, attacking Susan Rice is 'free'. They don't have any power over the nomination, so they're free to put on a big DERPy show for their base and rail against "Benghazigate".

Are you making excuses for and trying to minimize their behavior?

Don't clap for destroying America. This place is as good as you want to make it. -- Zappa introduced "Billy the Mountain" by revealing that Billy and Ethel took a vacation trip across the United States, destroying it in the process. This was Zappa's response to the applause and cheers from the audience. Cleveland Colliseum, 1971
