I find it hard to believe that someone with such a thoughtful and nuanced election site would turn out to be a complete kook. [Link: www.fiscusforthepeople.com...]

It looks like he had the 10 year old down the street design that for him. The American flag GIFs don't match and none of the buttons (which obscure a line of text) even work.

No matter what the national GOP pretends to be, the loons at the local level will always show what the party is really all about.

Gawd, people are still using FrontPage?? I haven't seen one of those in a while, but recognized it right away. Checked the source code--sure enough, FP 5.0, heh.

a 2005 federal case that found the theory to be a form of creationism.

A minor quibble. There is no such thing as the scientific theory of intelligent design, nor is there any such thing as the scientific theory of creationism.

From the American Association for the Advancement of Science:

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world. The theory of biological evolution is more than "just a theory." It is as factual an explanation of the universe as the atomic theory of matter or the germ theory of disease. Our understanding of gravity is still a work in progress. But the phenomenon of gravity, like evolution, is an accepted fact.

You can call "ID" a superstition or a belief based solely on faith, but you can't call it a scientific theory, since it meets exactly zero of the criteria a theory requires. For that reason it has no place in a science classroom.

Welcome Hatchling. :)

If your doing a sarcastic post and don't want people to be confused and perhaps take you seriously then use the "sarc tags" to let them know. This prevents misunderstandings and needless crosstalk between people that actually agree with each other. We all use slash marks as our "sarc tags" on LGF.

If you say something only mildly in jest use one slash after your text.

/

If your saying something outrageous then feel free to use up to three.

///

Anyway, welcome to LGF.

Letter: HB116 Promotes Creationism
Having failed twice before, Rep. Frank Hoffmann, R-West Monroe, is promoting another stealth creationist bill, House Bill 116, which "provides relative to textbooks and other instructional materials for [public] elementary and secondary schools."When Rep. Gene Reynolds, D-Dubberly, expressed concern that HB116 could permit adoption of controversial books on evolution and other subjects (Advocate May 13), he was exactly right. Hoffmann responded, "That is ...

A Married Man’s Sexual Epiphany — the Good Men Project
Your sex appeal shoots through the roof! You achieve the status of "sexy man". Your wife sees you in a new attractive light which is the only light that allows her to see you this way. In fact, many other women notice as well--wherever you are. You morph into that man other guys envy and women adore. And until now, you had no ...

The Greatest (Movie) Speech Ever Made
73 years later is still relevant and powerful as ever. It's also because of this movie that Charlie Chaplin was labelled a "premature anti-fascist."

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

LAPD Reformed as Federal Oversight Lifted, City Leaders Say
Los Angeles leaders say the Los Angeles Police Department has undergone a dramatic transformation since federal oversight of the agency was ordered 12 years ago. The dismissal Wednesday of the so-called consent decree, which arose largely out of the Rampart corruption scandal and addressed basic problems of accountability that stretched back decades, delivered a largely symbolic, but nonetheless important milestone for the LAPD ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites. Sam Harris: The Fireplace Delusion
I hate to have to point this out, but: I DID NOT WRITE THIS ESSAY. I'm just READING IT ALOUD. This essay came to my attention recently, and it's an excellent exercise for a skeptic or atheist to experience this feeling of loss of innocence and the painful feelings it summons. See it through to the end before posting, please. The source:samharris.org Next ...
