He's come a long way, but he doesn't have it all sorted out yet.

And what do you think about your years as a white nationalist now that you’ve left?

It may be that there are innate, biological differences among the races. There is a large body of academic research on these differences, and this research is credible, which doesn’t mean that it won’t be overturned in the future. Scholars should not be persecuted for publishing research on these matters. But this subject is so explosive that, in our daily lives, we should ignore it to the extent that this is possible. We should make an effort to treat people equally and not impose our stereotypes on them. That’s where most Americans are today, and I’ve come to accept the common wisdom.

He needs a real scientific background if he wants to be able to judge things of this nature. But good for him for putting a whole lot of crap behind him.

Give him more time, he'll find his way.

All journeys begin with the first step.

I totally agree. You can still sense that he hasn't quite shaken his superiority complex yet. But he is going in the right and good direction and quite quickly.

Absolutely.

Change is a process, an evolution, if you will.

It is is interesting to note when confronted with logic and reality, awareness is virtually immediate.

What keeps people from adopting that change is they must come to terms with acknowledging their prior beliefs have been wrong- they must accept the truth they have failed.

If people can be guided and encouraged through the change period and made to realize that even those encouraging them have failed at some point or another, the acceptance of the need to change becomes a desire to change, etc.

When my daughter was very little, she loved the stories my ex and I would regale her with about the times we made mistakes, did silly things, etc., etc. She came to realize her mistakes were a part of growing up (and of course she was much smarter than we were- she's never do the silly things we did!)

We had this routine whenever a lesson had to be learned, we'd say, 'Oh, that's not so bad. There was a time when I...

These truths apply to adults as well. SPLC's interview gave him the opportunity to validate his own need/desire to change.

Interesting article. I thought the point about there being two strands of white nationalism was especially interesting. To summarize:

1) racial differences in intelligence and behavior with blacks held to be inferior

2) racial tribalism --- i.e, the idea that

it’s natural for people to align with their own race and to work in their own race’s interests. And if you don’t do that, there’s something wrong with you and if you don’t defend your own race’s interests, you’re just going to be victimized by other races...

Item 2 is considerably more subtle (and may be more widespread) than the cruder racism of #1, so it is worthwhile to see it explicitly pointed out.

It does, however, need to be noted that racial tribalism occurs on some level with every race in a multi-racial country such as the USA. The key is keeping it cut back to the minimum possible.

COPENHAGAN, Denmark -- Michael Nielsen unlocks the door to his pig factory. He doffs his jacket, pants and muddy boots and zips on white coveralls. Then he steps into the maze-like complex housing several thousand pigs. Fraternity Closes Chapter Following Vandalism of Statue
The chapter that might secretly want to wear pointy hoods to their toga parties... Why the Temperature of the Yellow Sea Is a Big Deal, and Other Questions About the South Korean Ferry Disaster
The boat ran into trouble several dozen miles from Jindo, an island that sticks out of South Korea's southwestern corner like a little toe. Jindo is surrounded by a group of even smaller islands that are slightly farther afield from the mainland. The ferry was curving around those small islands at the time it issued a distress call. What caused the disaster? We ...

Calgary stabbings: How knife crime in Canada can cause ‘moral panic’
What Calgary police chief Rick Hanson called the "worst mass murder" in the city's history didn't end at the barrel of a gun. Instead, the 22-year-old suspect identified on Tuesday as Matthew de Grood is accused of entering the kitchen at a house party, taking "a large knife" and using it to fatally stab four men and one woman, all of whom were students ...
