Sadly, the only way these laws are going to go away is if WHITE kids start getting killed by them. Marissa Alexander doesn't seem to have been able to save herself with these laws - but, then again, she's black, too, as well as a woman. And she didn't even kill her abusive husband.

We went over that case a good bit when her sentence was handed down. The judge disallowed an SYG defense, because he ruled that she had lost the right to claim self defense when she reentered her house, on the normal self-defense rule that once you have exited a 'zone of danger' you must not reenter it.

[Gotta love someone who provokes a confrontation, commits murder and then claiming protection under “stand your ground”.]

After fleeing the scene where he "stood his ground."

This stupid fucking Stand Your Ground law is leading to a lot of unnecessary deaths and giving a lot of stupid idiots rationale for killing other people.

Comcast PAC Gave Money to Every Senator Examining Time Warner Cable Merger
It's no surprise that Comcast donates money to members of Congress. Political connections come in handy for a company seeking government approval of mergers, like Comcast's 2011 purchase of NBCUniversal and its proposed acquisition of Time Warner Cable (TWC). But just how many politicians have accepted money from Comcast's political arm? In the case of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which held the first ...

Judge Rules North Dakota’s Ban on Abortions After 6 Weeks Unconstitutional
North Dakota's law banning abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy is unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled Wednesday, striking down what critics had called the nation's most extreme limit on the procedure. The law, which was approved last year but never took effect, made it a crime for a woman to abort a fetus with a detectable heartbeat. Offending doctors faced up to five ...

Healing Is the Message at Interfaith Service for Victims of Sunday’s Shootings
Clergy of different faiths, joined by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, delivered messages of hope and unity Thursday before more than 1,300 people gathered at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park. More Than Half the Women in These Countries Are Married by the Time They Turn 18
The report is as sad as it is horrifying. New York Electoral College: State Joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Ben Mathis-Lilley, Slate: New York Electoral College: State Joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Instead of pushing for a Constitutional amendment, which would have to be ratified in 38 states, advocates ask individual state legislatures to pass an agreement: that they'll pledge all their presidential electors to the winner of the national popular vote as soon as enough other states pass the law to ...

Russ Campbell’s Blog: Will Trudeau’s Party Pay for His Ill-Chosen Words?
Justin Trudeau has talked himself into a defamation lawsuit that is likely to leave his party quite a bit lighter in the wallet. The Insane History of Rockets at Jet Propulsion Laboratories
The Rocket Boys In the late 1930s, a group of Caltech graduate students were booted off campus after blowing up (part of!) their building during a rocket test gone awry. Unwilling to give up on the joy of semi-controlled explosions, the students and a few of their friends headed into the San Gabriel Mountains. They picked a deserted gully -- Arroyo Seco -- ...
