Don't you know that the wingularity is a fact-free zone?

The first claim is correct: people voted for Obama, not for taxes. Taxes weren't on the ballot.

Also, Romney lost even though scientific analysis showed he would win in a landslide. In that sense, Obama's victory was luckier and hence narrower than Bush's

Congress, including some of the same GOPers now complaining about the rates, actually voted twice to allow a return to the pre-2001 tax rates. The first time was when Congress originally enacted the tax cuts in 2001 with a sunset date for after 2010 and the second was when they extended the rates through the end of this year.

In both instances, Congress acted out of a need to show a balanced budget for the CBO projections. It was a gaming of the CBO system, but it was a tacit acceptance that the rates were meant to be temporary.

Now, the GOP wanted those rates reduced permanently while the Democrats wanted them to remain temporary for the lower income brackets.

The GOP is more than willing to see all the rates increase (even temporarily if it means political points won against the President and Democrats going into the midterm 2014 elections) rather than cede that some rates should increase on those who can best afford the hikes.
