Thanks for fixing the headline. Two or three more rewrites and I would have had it.

"Wow. It's real." Now go visit a VA hospital and see more "real". Dipshit.

Well, that blows my hypothesis that she was off to have her semi-annual face ironing done.

She did, just before she went to Afghanistan. From the first link:

Before traveling to Afghanistan, Brewer made a stop in Washington. She met with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and visited Army combat medic Mason Steill of Chandler at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Steill's grandmother is a friend of the governor. The 22-year-old medic was wounded in Afghanistan in June.

"What a price they have paid. What a price America has paid," Brewer said.

From the second link:

Before going overseas, Brewer stopped at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., where she found the reality of the situation also differed from her prior perception.

"That is, in so many ways, so heartbreaking because so many are injured dramatically, something that we hear about, only might see on TV," she said.

"But to be there and to talk to them and to see their spirit is so, so encouraging that they are willing to give up what they have given up," Brewer continued. "And then to come back and be strong and be faithful still to us."

Brewer said she was impressed by the kind of equipment available to treat and rehabilitate the injured soldiers.

She even got a chance to spend some time with Army combat medic Mason Steill, the grandson of a Maricopa County employee, who was wounded in Afghanistan. All that, Brewer said, left an impression.

"You know, what a price they have paid, what a price America has paid," she said. "We have suffered great casualties and great injuries and must never, ever ... forget it."

She met with the grandson of a friend. Again, reality came as a shock, "something that we hear about, only might see on TV".

Now we know that Michelle Bachmann will have competition for the craziest female crown in the 2016 GOP presidential primaries.

My ungracious disdain for Leather Face got in the way of my distaste for her brand of governance. So she made the trip to the VA hospital and saw the truth. Most wounded would have died if not for the skills and advancement of technology. I watched as my friends and relatives came home years ago with pieces missing or torn up. Some you could not see. Will it change her and her attitude? Who knows. "You know, what a price they have paid, what a price America has paid," she said. "We have suffered great casualties and great injuries and must never, ever ... forget it." Yep. We say that every time. Here's your hat. Thanks.
So how about them Hispanic soldjers, Jan?

I wonder whether she would have gone to the VA if the man she visited had not been the grandson of her friend. I wonder whether she spoke to any other patients there. And I doubt any part of her trip will have a lasting impact on her, or any influence on how she governs. Hence the comment in reply to researchok.

My point entirely. It's scary out "there". I doubt her heart was affected. Rah Rah. And fuck Jan and her bull shit and ignorance. "That's a pretty ribbon! Where were you?"

While Brewer was away from AZ, they wouldn't say where she was, so...

13 Holidays are Family Fun Time  Thu, Dec 6, 2012 5:29:17pm

I remember visiting the Pentagon with the family right before troops went into Iraq. Security was very tight and we had to show ID etc. What shocked me is that I didn't notice the automatic weapon the soldiers were carrying until I looked back at them from the entrance. They just had such a presence, it was them I was concerned about.

When I looked back at the "full picture" I thought, $%^&!, there's like 8 very young men in full camo with very big guns over there.

I couldn't believe the power and authority they projected as they were checking our ID's. I was old enough to be their mother.
