The Indians keep throwing up useless underfunded missions that fail before they get there, for no other reason than National Prestige. I bet they’d be interested.

They do it for the national prestige of making the rockets that take them to space and not so much the idea American or foreign rockets took Indian tourists to space.

Falcon Heavy, 53 metric tons to LEO.
The scaled down Soyuz the Russians planned to use for their cancelled lunar flyby masses just 6 tons. That leaves quite a bit for the trans-stages that would be needed for trans-lunar injection and return, and for a small lander.

I think this is doable but the article probably understates the development effort needed on the specialized hardware, like the lander and the trans-stages.

Falcon Heavy has just half the LEO payload of the Saturn V, but the modified Soyuz or SpaceX's own Dragon are much lighter than Apollo and a new lander could be much lighter than the original LM.

And if you do go, br sure to pick up one of those very nice expensive Hasselblad cameras that our astronauts left behind.

You may have heard that there are 12 Hasselblad film cameras sitting on the surface of the moon at this very moment, left there by astronauts who needed to lighten their vessel’s load as much as possible. However, did you know that at least one of those cameras was left there to test the durability of the gear?
