Remembering a story from a female to male transexual (they give them excess testosterone to change their bodies quickly) the book is probably right, but who cares? Testosterone does seem to improve visualization ability along with giving people a pornographic imagination.

But as TDG2112 pointed out you don't NEED it.

There's no reason for a math book to say anything about that.
