I know Civ V is just a game, but I still fell a bit guilty about sending an Inquisitor to a newly conquered city to stamp out the Jews.

I wonder if the Greeks and Phoenicians can get their Iberian lands back?

Speaking of Sephardic Jews, Yasmin Levy singing one of my favorite songs live in Jerusalem.

When I hear people say we need to be a Christian nation. I think about the Spanish Jews and Muslims who were killed for the sole crime of being that religion or in the case of the converts being converts. That's why in large part I am a strong supporter of the separation of church and state.

That's what video games are selling these days? That's disgusting and more than a little disturbing. I'm glad I'm not into gaming.

I'M SO ASHAMED!

Yeah, that's an insulting offer. I have crypto-Jews in my background. Some of them lost their religion, some didn't. I have no clue why Spain is making the citizenship offer predicated on religion.

And on one of the two in particular. Notice they aren't given the same offer to the descendants of those Muslims forced out at the same time.

It's a game that's basically multi-layered chess with historical figures as pieces. There's no story, it's all about gameplay. Different religions give specific bonuses to attributes like population growth, finance, and culture, and their spread can be affected in certain ways. Try not to get offended by pretty much the most inoffensive game ever.

And what if their next game is a Nazi concentration camp where you get varying points for killing Jews, Romany, dissidents and "defectives"? Still inoffensive? & if not, how is it different than this? Costuming?

What the inquisitor does is remove (or attempt to) the religion of a city. Every civ has a unit that can do the same.
Way too much overreaction to this. No offense CL.

Also, it's what the Inquisition was really all about.
Stamping out other religions.

What nonsense.
Sid Meier would never release such a game.

I get that it's just a game an that it's based on history. Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I don't like that kind of stuff. To me games are supposed to be fun—it's fine if the objective is to blow up zombies or do battle with some other imaginary monsters or aliens or whatever, but when it comes to killing cops (GTA) or reenacting horrible things done in the name of religion I no longer see it as "fun".

I don't happen to like those first-person shooter games either, even when the targets are imaginary creatures. They're just too violent & gory for me (not to mention the realism of the gore)... it's like the only point of the game is mutilation, killing & blood. I feel the same about slasher/torture type movies.

No offense taken, I just happen to feel differently about it. You'e entitled to your opinion (even if you're obviously wrong, heh ;)).

I have never played any of these games, never wanted to, but I think the "Assassin's Creed" trailer for their Revolutionary War scenario is really lame, especially with "American the Beautiful" as background music.
