This is really a case of the GOP kicking the can down the road.

By raising the eligibility age for Medicare costs down the road will go up dramatically.

The amount of health care dollars are spent as we age is enormous. If access to preventative care is delayed, those costs will go up.

The GOP has created a trap for themselves. They have convinced their Base of elderly whites that the budget can be balanced by cutting hundreds of billions of dollars in welfare to healthy, young, dark-skinned people, when the reality is that the only programs that actually have that kind of money to cut are the extremely popular programs that the GOP Base depends on. That is why we had the spectacle of Romney promising to cancel hundreds of billions of dollars in planned cuts to medicare and why the President should not help the GOP and should insist they spell out the cuts they want to make.

The buying a house and figuring out how to pay for it later analogy is pretty good, considering the GOP were so willing to throw underwater and foreclosed homeowners to the sharks.
