So the children are going hear this and then convince all their schoolmates to go with them to a terrorist training camp in Pakistan?

Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, is skeptical about Mattel’s explanation. “It does seem to be saying, ‘Islam is the light.’ I don’t think too many people would argue with that, so I think they’re being a little disingenuous,” Markell points out. “And this is not a healthy thing to be putting out in the marketplace when we’re in a war on terror, and little children are so susceptible to the messages they hear — even from a doll — then to take them into the school and talk about them. So yeah, this is a serious thing.”

Reminds me of this for some reason: "Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream..."

I wonder what it says if you play it backwards.

You know, I used to be a patriotic atheist American, but after hearing that doll I left behind all my material possessions to live in a cave in Afghanistan (they have surprisingly good wifi in here) and fight against the Great Satan.

Oops I missed that, sorry. It's Oppenheimer's Exploratorium in SF, and the link is safe, I've used it in the past. Basically it tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but using different words. Your ears are used to forming patterns so you hear "Little Red Riding Hood" while they are actually saying "Ladle Rat Rotten Hut" & they do this while they tell the whole tale.

Wow, this was debunked a couple years back and now it's popped up again.

The linked story is from 2008, and Jan Markell was the original one pushing that idiocy (and still is). She's a bad-crazy end-times loon who has repeatedly given extremely bigoted statements regarding natural disasters.

Nowadays, (yesterday, to be exact) Markell is hanging out with Michelle Bachmann claiming that President Obama is in the process of implementing Sharia law.

Bachmann: Obama wants to 'Lift up the Islamists' and Impose Sharia Law

Earlier this year, Rep. Michele Bachmann said that Muslim Brotherhood agents had penetrated the Obama administration, which she claimed was attempting to “enforce Islamic speech codes.” While Bachmann was roundly mocked and criticized for the baseless remarks, they were a hit in conspiratorial right-wing circles. Bachmann took her crusade against the supposed Muslim Brotherhood infiltration of the government to Jan Markell’s radio show this weekend, where she again claimed that Obama is “aiding and abetting” radical Islamist groups.

Markell is an End Times broadcaster and a close ally of Bachmann, who attended her “Understanding the Times” conference this year. She has previously claimed that Mattel’s Little Mommy Cuddle ‘n Coo doll is promoting Islam to children, demanded the government begin monitoring mosques and in 2007 predicted a terrorist attack as a result of a Hindu prayer in the U.S. Senate. Markell has also suggested that a tornado in Minnesota was a “warning from God” meant to punish the Lutheran Church for affirming gay pastors and alleged that the deadly 2011 earthquake in Japan was divine judgment.

re: #12 RadicalModerate

That just kind of ties it all together -- I saw that Bachmann article this am and ignored it thinking it was just more of the same. Didn't realize their was also a tie to this resurfacing kookspiracy.

Baker’s Graduation Cake Mix-Up Ends in Purr-fect Mistake
When Laura Gambrel, 22, of Zionsville, Ind., graduated from Indiana University in May, she wanted to keep the celebration pretty low key. She didn’t walk at the ceremony, nor did she have a party because she planned to go right back to the university this coming fall for grad school. It seemed only fitting then that the one thing her mother attempted to do ...

Study: Reading Fiction Makes People Comfortable With Ambiguity
Are you uncomfortable with ambiguity? It's a common condition, but a highly problematic one. The compulsion to quell that unease can inspire snap judgments, rigid thinking, and bad decision-making. Fortunately, new research suggests a simple antidote for this affliction: Read more literary fiction. A trio of University of Toronto scholars, led by psychologist Maja Djikic, report that people who have just read a short ...

The abortion wars return to Congress in a big way with House legislation to ban almost all abortions after a fetus reaches the age of 20 weeks. U.S. embassy security? Not in my experience

On a personal level, Freaking Out is a process whereby an individual casts off outmoded and restricting standards of thinking, dress, and social etiquette in order to express CREATIVELY his relationship to his immediate environment and the social structure as a whole. -- from the liner notes of Freak Out.
