EI, please delete this Page. It's argumentative and most likely will just lead to a flame war.

Maybe you're the one who should go first, EI. You could start here, then move on to addressing this.

Yes, you should address it seriously. It wasn't posted here, but many of us saw a link to it here. I'm not going to find it for you.

They continue living there. Like the million plus other Arab Palestinians who live in Israel.

They go about their daily lives, shop at Israeli malls, use Israeli services, frequent Israeli restaurants and bars, send their children to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and receive Israeli social and health benefits. Exactly as they do right now.

Maybe they apply for and obtain Israeli passports.

This is a video summary/interview of "The Kid From Brooklyn." brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or IBEW.

It shows how he got started and what he does. He is a bit of a cartoon character, that is for sure. There does not seem to be any research done ahead of time, he just starts talking on a subject and lets you know what he thinks. Sometimes it might be pretty ignorant. However that could be said of Howard Stern just as easily.

If you want tickets to a sold out show, you want to know this guy....

65 Buck  Thu, Dec 13, 2012 4:53:54pm

re: #64 goddamnedfrank

Do they vote in Israeli elections? Do their children?

Like any democracy, if they are citizens.

They have the right to apply for citizenship. Even if they don't they are entitled to municipal services, and have municipal voting rights.

There are more than a million Arab Palestinian Israeli citizens in Israel. They have more rights (voting included) than any of their Arab brothers and sisters in Arab Muslim countries.

66 Buck  Thu, Dec 13, 2012 6:05:51pm

Arab citizens in Israel (about 20% of the total population) are granted the same rights as Jewish citizens under law.

I am surprised you don't know that?

Abdel Rahman Zuabi, a Muslim from northern Israel, was the first Arab on the Israeli Supreme Court.

Right now Israeli Supreme Court judge Salim Joubran is an Arab Palestinian.

67 goddamnedfrank  Thu, Dec 13, 2012 6:53:06pm

re: #66 Buck

Arab citizens in Israel (about 20% of the total population) are granted the same rights as Jewish citizens under law.

I am surprised you don't know that?

I do know that. I also know that there's an upper limit on the number of non Jewish Arabs Israel can absorb and remain a majority Jewish state. The Arab citizens of Israel were made citizens because of the laws in place during the handover from the British.

Such denizens who were still within the territorial confines of Israel after the war were granted full Israeli citizenship. In order to determine who was eligible for citizenship under this provision, the state of Israel conducted a population registration in 1952 and again in the 1980s. Those found to meet the requirements obtained Israeli citizenship. For purposes regarding modern Israeli citizenship, this section is usually irrelevant.

Like any democracy, if they are citizens.

They have the right to apply for citizenship. Even if they don't they are entitled to municipal services, and have municipal voting rights.

So if Judea and Sumeria are annexed shouldn't citizenship be granted automatically? The borders will have expanded to absorb the population in situ.

I understand that currently Israeli citizenship is granted on the basis of jus sanguinis and not jus solis. Naturalization for non Jewish residents is at the sole discretion of the Ministry of Interior. Additionally, under current law Palestinians who marry Israeli citizens are banned from attaining citizenship themselves.

Therefore it's reasonable to believe, should annexation occur, that significant hurdles exist to Israel simply absorbing the Palestinian population like they did previously with the Arabs already within their borders at the time of the nation's founding.

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the reason "most people on the internet aren't worth arguing with" is because their opponent is ill prepared and lacking in focus?

72 Buck  Tue, Dec 18, 2012 11:06:18am

re: #67 goddamnedfrank

You make a whole bunch of assumptions and guesses about this.

Should Israel be able to decide what the rules are regarding citizenship? Doesn't every country reserve that right?

I also know that there's an upper limit on the number of non Jewish Arabs Israel can absorb and remain a majority Jewish state. The Arab citizens of Israel were made citizens because of the laws in place during the handover from the British.

I say both of those assertions are false.

You assume these things. Would the arabs had been made citizens even if the British laws (that were hopelessly biased against Jews) were not in place?

You assume not, I assume so.

73 Buck  Tue, Dec 18, 2012 11:18:40am

re: #67 goddamnedfrank

Additionally, under current law Palestinians who marry Israeli citizens are banned from attaining citizenship themselves.

Automatically. They don't attain citizenship automatically.

This was used as a loop hole to get suicide bombers closer to their target.

Before that took effect, twenty Arab Palestinians with Israeli identity cards who were either married to Israelis or the offspring of such a marriage were suspected or proven ties to terrorist activities.

The idea of being more careful is a defensive action.
