The 1% is bigger than we thought.

The prison guard union also led the charge to defeat marijuana reform in California. Apparently imprisoning pot-heads was calculated to be a major factor in sustaining job security. Otoh, letting them run loose might have saved the jobs of those Hostess workers.

I'm sorry but this article is inflammatory bullshit. Case in point:

Today, the state’s highest-paid employees make far more than comparable workers elsewhere in almost all job and wage categories, from public safety to health care, base pay to overtime.

So how the fuck do you say "highest-paid employees" then in the SAME SENTENCE say "comparable workers elsewhere in almost all job and wage categories".

Hey fuckheads "highest-paid employees" and "all job and wage categories" are mutually exclusive. So are the authors, the union trashers and public employee haters trying to make you think all state employees make more than their private counterparts? You betcha.

Is it true? Not by a long, long, LONG way. Example, Programmers, DBAs, Network Engineers and other IT classifications make about half to 2/3 of what an employee in the private sector makes for the same job.

Additionally, we've never had a cost of living increase as prescribed in our contract and rather have had to put up with 4 years of furloughs and wage reductions. Top it off by the fact that our pension funds is the most well funded in the country and it all adds up to the usual script, blame "greedy" public employees. The same employees who have to pay for everything themselves from parking in the same building they work (90 bucks a month) to fund raising for break room refrigerators (yes we had to buy them ourselves).

Pay giveaway my ass.

P.S. The number one cause of wasted money by the State of California? Private.. fucking... contractors.

The jockeying between agencies for the same doctors demonstrates a payroll system run amok and chronic mismanagement, said Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean at the Yale University School of Management and founder of a training institute for chief executive officers.

“Even though this all took place in California, such apparent recklessness is almost too over the top for Hollywood,” Sonnenfeld said. “These irresponsible public officials have artificially constrained the market with an unnaturally limited supply pool, either due to laziness, incompetence, corruption or all of the above.”

The new monies from Prop 30 in the first couple yearsare not going to schools and classrooms as we were told. Those monies are going to replenish the teacher pension fund.

Private Contractors? Not looking like these things are mutually exclusive. I bet we do over pay private contractors. Just like some employees. State funded 1%ers.

Fuckheads? Stay classy Locker.

I believe you when you say you are getting underpaid. What if it's mismanagement much like what has been pointed out here?

It's still easily to just rage against your preferred malefactor. Rooting out mismanagement is long, time-consuming, and because the critical work involved has no excitement to it, its largely thankless. That's why legislators confronted with evidence of chronic mismanagement either hew and haw or rant and rave: Because trying to address the problem directly doesn't win votes because it isn't visible enough.

There Is No Such Thing Really as Professional Photographers
there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

Men Are Being Sexually Assaulted in the Military, but Nobody Is Talking About It — the Good Men Project
Our Soldiers are being raped...by our Soldiers. In the U.S. Military, annually, more men are being raped by men than women are being raped by men. I state this fact, articulating it in this manner, not to diminish what these women are enduring but to raise the level of awareness and discourse to fully include the men; they have been dropping through the ...

We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...

We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing.
