IPCC Critical of New Climate Change Report Leak
IPCC Critical of Climate Change Report Leak
Anti-Science climate skeptic bloggers have created a “false leak” of the next IPCC report to generate controversy and create confusion over climate science because it’s what they do. I call it a false leak because the report in question is draft, and is in the hands of hundreds, if not thousands of people already - to get a copy all you have to do is volunteer to review it.
It’s also review and not final, so any attempt to draw significant conclusions from it before its release is ludicrous. Everything in the report is still subject to change based on feedback from the reviewers.
This “leak” of the new report draft by “stopgreensuicide.com” will allow the carbon lobby shill blogs to gin up fake controversy and kookspiracies for the next couple of years, and indeed, the usual suspects are already doing so with climate skepticism’s leading bloggers, including “Watts up With that?”, all over it, along with the infamous pseudo-science hack, James Delingpole, at the Telegraph.
They will first claim that the new draft invalidates (x,y,z,) in article after article, and then after the final report comes out they will likely gin up controversy and imaginary conspiracies based on the differences in the edits. So they have new grist for their crazy mill for at least the next two years.
The initial claim by the original “leaker” that the report contains a “game changing admission” regarding solar forcing is fully debunked here. It seems pretty much a case of the paper saying exactly the opposite of what the climate skeptic blogger says it does due to either ignorance or willful lying. By selective cherry picking the climate denialist at stopgreensuicide is trying to once again resurrect the global cosmic ray cloud seeding hypothesis. More on recent work on that here, please do note the final two paras of that story.
The UN climate science panel has criticised a blogger who has published a draft version of its next report.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is preparing what is known as its Fifth Assessment Report for publication next year.
The work looks to draw together research to provide a statement on global warming and its future effects.
The drafting the reports is open to reviewers but on the condition that no details are published.
In a statement, the IPCC says it “regrets this unauthorized posting which interferes with the process of assessment and review”.
The draft posted online is of what’s called Working Group 1 (WGI), the first stage of the next report.
This covers the physical aspects of climate science, including observations of temperature and computer models of possible scenarios for future warming.
The IPCC statement read: “The unauthorized and premature posting of the drafts of the WGI AR5, which are works in progress, may lead to confusion because the text will necessarily change in some respects once all the review comments have been addressed.
“It is regrettable that one out of many hundreds of reviewers broke the terms of the review.”
The draft was posted by US climate sceptic, Alec Rawls, who runs a blog called Stop Green Suicide.
