Sigh. Again, I'm just completely puzzled by this emphasis on "mental health care" after the Newtown massacre. There's no reason at all to think that better mental health care would have done a single thing to stop Adam Lanza. He had no history of violence, no police record, absolutely no indicators that he would do such an evil thing.

Sure, it's a good cause to improve mental health care. But the idea that it will do ANYTHING to stop these kinds of crimes is nothing but a fantasy.

Mental health care is an important issue that does need to be dealt with. That said, to make better mental health care and better mental health care access the magic bullet (no pun intended) that would make these tragedies go away is wishful thinking.

Under the circumstances, that is understandable.

A lot of things are going to be proposed that might not have stopped this killer. Some of those should actually pass. Like closing the gunshow "loophole". I think the health professionals deserve to be heard. This was no wingnut, nobody trying to divert, or deceive.

See if you might look at it this way instead of as some RWNJ resonance-
Leave no stone unturned in cutting mass killings. Time will tell what is fantasy and what works out.

Lanza's mother received at least $250,000/year in alimony

There's no evidence that lack of "resources" for any kind of health care--mental or otherwise--contributed to this. I'd hate to see another CA Prop 63 enacted ([Link: www.dmh.ca.gov...] as a reaction to this horrible event when it certainly wouldn't have done anything to prevent this incident.

But it's not about just this shooting. It's about the mass killer/serial killer threat. Tools like guns, cultural factors like violent obsessions, mental health...

Leave no stone unturned.
