But, but renewed focus on funding mental health care! I thought they cared!

I urge each of you to contact the President and tell him to hold his ground. No funding cuts for the poor, the disabled, or the elderly. Tax increases on those earning $250,000 or more per year. He needs to keep his campaign promises and save our Country.

The White House has an easy email form to fill out and/or a number to call.

Ok, so what can he cut?

You will hear that the President has agreed to cuts.

Where is that list? What has he agreed to cut?

Can you find it anywhere? Or do we just agree that no cuts are possible, and that the budget should just add another trillion dollars to the debt.

The tax increase will NOT cover the trillion dollar deficit in the budget.

Balanced approach? OK, what cuts?

re: #6 Buck

Start with corporate welfare.

Next, cut subsidies to the wealthy.

See where that gets us along with raising taxes on the wealthy.

I would start with the billions of dollars we (the taxpayers) give to the oil companies for "exploration" when they are making record profits and the amount that they already have in proven reserves is vastly more than needed to cause a complete eco-catastrophe if burnt.

Then, I would go to exemptions made for investments such that guys like Romney only paid 12%. If your source of income is manipulating the market, then you should get taxed on it.

I would also cut all manner of military pork - not the stuff we really need like enough body armors, rifles and bullets, medical infrastructure, and R&D, but the stuff we really don't need like maintaining outmoded ships or building more outmoded tanks.

Realistically, 250,000 I think is too low to set the limit. That is the kind of money that a combined income of two higher end professionals might have. Assuming that they have no student loans for things like graduate school, medical school law school etc... they would be fine. But in reality, to comfortably have a house of one's own and save for kids college without fear of being wiped out by a medical emergency (in other words, actually be comfortably middle class) $250,000 in today's real dollars is not sufficient. I would set the bar at $300,000 - $350,000.

I wonder if this is house bill 486.

How the IRS’s Nonprofit Division Got So Dysfunctional - ProPublica
The IRS division responsible for flagging Tea Party groups has long been an agency afterthought, beset by mismanagement, financial constraints and an unwillingness to spell out just what it expects from social welfare nonprofits, former officials and experts say. The controversy that erupted in the past week, leading to the ousting of the acting Internal Revenue Service commissioner, an investigation by the FBI, ...

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites.  Frank says:

I was writing all kinds of positive and negative canons and weird inverted this and retrograde that and getting as spaced-out mathematically as I could and I was going "Wait a minute (laughs), who cares about that stuff?" I had always liked rhythm and blues so here I was stuck between the slide rule and the gut bucket somewhere and I decided that I would opt for a third road someplace in between. -- From an 1972 interview to Martin Perlich.
