Better late than never.

Gingrich does have a lot of influence in some circles.

You take what you can get, when you get it.

He did the right thing.

Sorry, but he gets no credit AFAIC. If I believed he "did the right thing because it was the right thing instead of because he's a rank opportunist, then I'd feel differently. I seriously doubt that's the case—if the winds were still blowing in the opposite direction (or if they began to blow that way again tomorrow), I'm sure he'd be carrying on about "traditional marriage" again.

Same here. Gingrich's actions here are welcome as a sign that hating on the gays is no longer working so well for the Republicans. That's it.

There is no reason to be charitable to this version of the GOP, with its long history of opportunistically scapegoating and "othering" everyone except straight, white, aggressively Christian, wealthy men.

Good point, there's at least that.

That was my first thought. "It is the end of the world!"

I must hurry and finish the latest Harry Dresden book before that happens. Let's see. 230 pages left in 2 1/2 hours. Tricky, but doable.

Good lord the Mayans were right!

That was my thought when I heard Kristol say the Rich could afford to pay more taxes on NPR a week or so ago.

Watching the Republicans thrash around for some way to become more acceptable is pretty disgusting because they never admit that they were wrong in the past.

For instance one idea that's being floated is to make birth control hormones over-the-counter.

Why you say?

Well that way they can take them OFF of insurance and continue to say that "making your employer pay for birth control is immoral!!!"

But presumably they'd be cheaper otc than by prescription so they make normal people a little happier.

Note, however that this is all a result of a broken system where insurance never pays for OTC medicine or supplements no matter how needed or expensive.

What a disgusting compromise. Birth control pills for everyone! But not on insurance, because your employer is more moral than you are, you hell-bound slut!

Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. The Greatest (Movie) Speech Ever Made
73 years later is still relevant and powerful as ever. It's also because of this movie that Charlie Chaplin was labelled a "premature anti-fascist."

 Frank says:

The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is, All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on. You could be in the Garden of Eden if you had just kept your mouth shut and hadn't asked any questions. -- Playboy Interview, April 1993
