I don't think you can pardon someone who has not been convicted. Let's hope it doesn't get that far. Someone could have the charges thrown out, but I think it would have to be a judge in that jurisdiction. I hope we don't even see charges filed.

I suspect we will not see them filed, but of course if the Presidents office just signaled intent, dead case right there. Journalists should be an exception to simple possession for the purpose of journalism.

It's very, very dangerous for a president to signal intent on a criminal matter. It smacks of croneyism to tell people "well, you might as well find him innocent because I'll pardon him regardless."

Meh. It's a trivial crime in that circumstance. Not a gun or bullet in the room. The danger should be proportionate. But you may be right-Wait for a conviction. Then pardon him. His violation was in the service of public safety.

Let the police investigate - at the very least they should confiscate the clip if it is still in DC. Just because Gregory showed the clip doesn't mean that he owns it, that he transported it into DC, that he purchased it legally, or that he (or someone on his staff) possesses an illegal weapon the clip could be used in. Usually if someone wants to display illegal items for a legal purpose (like education) they will arrange for an officer to transport the item and be present.

If you look at the video of Gregory holding up the "magazine" the bottom as well as the top is open. There is no floor plate or spring or even a bottom plate to the "magazine," it is merely the sidewall shell of one. You can see the feed lips at the top of the "magazine" so he is holding it upright in the correct direction.

What he had could only be considered a prop since it could neither hold nor feed bullets, it is only a hollow rectangular shell of metal. Look closely, he is holding it up with his thumb inserted into the bottom opening where the bottom plate used to be. No bottom plate means no spring or floor plate either since they attach to the bottom plate and would fall out without one.

This is just another tempest in a teapot, instead of discussing what Gregory and LaPierre said on the show they now have people discussing whether Gregory broke the law.

Which by the way he didn't.

I have no idea what a full magazine would weigh, but he handles that thing like it weighs maybe 3 or 4 oz. at most. I'm guessing it's empty.

Empty or not it would still be a magazine, the law does not care if it is loaded with bullets or not.

The point is that a magazine like that has four parts, the shell, the bottom (floor) plate, the spring, and the follower. The only thing Gregory has in his hand is the shell, the other three parts have been removed so that it is not a functional magazine.

Go to page 28 of this PDF to see what I am talking about, it shows how to disassemble the magazine for cleaning.

re: #8 watching you tiny alien kittens are

Thanks.
You may notice that I know exactly nothing about guns. I have nothing against people hunting, or even under certain circumstances, keeping a gun for protection. It's just not a way I want to spend my time and effort, and fortunately for me, I don't have to. However, it's nice to have folks to provide that info when I need it.

New Method for Producing Clean Hydrogen
Duke University engineers have developed a novel method for producing clean hydrogen, which could prove essential to weaning society off of fossil fuels and their environmental implications. While hydrogen is ubiquitous in the environment, producing and collecting molecular hydrogen for transportation and industrial uses is expensive and complicated. Just as importantly, a byproduct of most current methods of producing hydrogen is carbon monoxide, ...

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics
Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists. During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace. Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Pope Francis explained how upset Jesus' ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...

Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...

 Frank says:

The crux of the biscuit is: If it entertains you, fine. Enjoy it. If it doesn't, then blow it out your ass. I do it to amuse myself. If I like it, I release it. If somebody else likes it, that's a bonus. -- What he's talking about is obvious. He said this in an interview with Playboy magazine on May 2, 1993.
