Really he doesn't care about the kids. He is only holding them hostage to advance his own agenda. He actually used orphans as a bargaining chip previously to get a political endorsement. Now it's to rev up tensions and show he is standing up to America for blacklisting Russian officials for torture.

My son used to live in Moscow and did some fund-raising for the Yevreske Detski Dom (Jewish Children's Home). Most of the children who lived there were not "orphans," they had parents or relatives who because of poverty, illness, alcoholism or crime could not keep them. Anyway he was frequently asked "Oh those cute little orphans! How can we adopt one?"

His kids went to school with those "cute little orphans." Knives and homemade shanks had to be regularly collected by the teaching staff.

Jewish Children's Home was considered one of the BETTER orphanages and there was a lot of competition to get in.

This is because of child abuse cases that resulted in death of an adopted child and not politics. The USA is one of the few advanced nations that allows (and thanks to religious kooks encourages) corporal punishment of children by parents. Americans want to adopt there are plenty of home grown kids available though they are not all cute blonde kids which may be the problem.

I think this stems from an incident that took plca about a yeaer ago , where an American mother adopted a child from Russia .The boy proved to be a problem child ,and the mother simply bought the kid a one-way ticket to Moscow and put him on a plane . This outraged Russian officials , and at THAT time the Russians considered banning adoptions to Americans ,

Russian ombudsman slams US acquittal in Russian child death

A U.S. court has cleared a parent accused of the death of his adoptive Russian son, the press service of Russian Ombudsman for Children Pavel Astakhov said on Friday.

“Johnson County Iowa Court on November 3, 2011 cleared Brian Dykstra, 35, charged with the killing of his one-and-a- half-year-old adoptive Russian son Isaac Jonathan Dykstra, of all charges,” a message issued by the press service said.

The boy died on August 14, 2005. The U.S. authorities conducted a six-year-long investigation into Isaac’s death without sharing any information with Russian diplomats or the Russian Education Ministry that supervises foreign adoptions. U.S. authorities commented on the case only after the non-guilty verdict was brought.
