I loved Lawrence's comments in that article. I wish that the brain-dead celebs who flock to PETA would learn about this organization. It's disgusting that people who really do care about animals don't do the first lick of research.

I respect animal righst groups. PETA I hate. They are a cult. I think one of the things I hated about the 90s is the rise of these kind of groups (also there was an AIDS group that rose up that was extremist and also denying science and prudence like ACTUP if I recall) on the left which is why in my youth I became attracted to the right more.

"Animal Rights Activist" sentenced for threatening and stalking WSU Medical School researcher.

Marino, 47, was arrested in May on WSU's campus after she chained herself to the undergraduate library doors. She had been banned from campus following a series of graphic blog posts about Donal O'Leary, a WSU medical school professor who conducts research on shelter dogs, that included descriptions of how he should die and the publishing of his home address and phone number.

O'Leary was granted a personal protection order from Wayne County courts ordering Marino to remove his home address and phone number from her posts.

Marino's first post about O'Leary -- titled "Donal O'Leary: Federally-Funded Sadist Tortures Shelter Dogs to Death at Wayne State" -- was published Oct. 22, 2011. It included his home address and phone number, along with his WSU e-mail address, phone number and address.

So, this "activist" is not any different than the fuckbags who stalk and threaten abortion providers.

Animal rights terror group takes credit for torching cattle trucks

A shadowy group of anonymous animal rights radicals says it was behind an arson attack early Sunday that burned more than a dozen trucks at a cattle feedlot in Fresno County, Calif.

A statement from the Animal Liberation Front, published by the Fresno Bee, describes how the fire, which heavily damaged 14 tractors and several cattle-hauling trailers, was set. “Despite guards, a constant worker presence and razor wire fence,” the statement read, “the enemy is still vulnerable.”

“[T]here is a lot of stuff that needs to be destroyed,” the statement added, “and we can’t count on spontaneous combustion and careless welders to do all the work.”

Harris Farms CEO and Chairman John Harris said Tuesday in an email to the Bee that he and his employees are “appalled by this senseless, but very alarming attack.”

“I had suspected Animal Liberation Front may have been involved and now they are in fact claiming responsibility for it with multiple details,” Harris wrote, calling the arson a terrorist action.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, too, considers the loose-knit Animal Liberation Front a terrorist group. Testifying before Congress in 2005, then-FBI deputy assistant director John Lewis called it, along with other “eco-terror” organizations, “one of today’s most serious domestic terrorism threats.”

Three of the seven fugitives in the “domestic terror” category of the FBI’s Most Wanted list are affiliated with the Animal Liberaton Front.

Eco-Arsonist Sentenced to Nearly 22 Years

Marie Mason, a 47-year-old environmental activist, was sentenced Thursday to nearly 22 years in prison for a 1999 arson attack at Michigan State University’s Agriculture Hall that caused more than $1 million in damage.

The incident was prosecuted in a Michigan federal court as a domestic terrorism case, and United States District Judge Paul Maloney referred to Ms. Mason’s acts as an “abandonment of the marketplace of ideas.” Prosecutors had recommended a 20-year sentence. Judge Maloney went higher: 21 years and 10 months.

According to The Associated Press, Ms. Mason helped set the Michigan State fire along with her former husband, Frank Ambrose, as a protest against research into genetically modified crops.

Mr. Ambrose cooperated with authorities in implicating Ms. Mason, who, as part of her plea, also admitted responsibility for another $3 million in damages caused in other acts of vandalism, including “destroying homes under construction in the Detroit area and Indiana and setting fire to two boats owned by a man who formerly raised minks,” The A.P. reported.

Ms. Mason had said she acted on behalf of the Earth Liberation Front, a radical environmental group.

Read the article at HuffPo about Jennifer Lawrence. PETA has no qualms about threatening celebrities who won't pose nude for them.

That wasn't about Lawrence's not posing, though. It was about her butchering a (already-dead) squirrel on camera for her movie Winter's Bone . I loved the article's comparing Lawrence's "Screw PETA!" to Brig. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe's famous "Nuts!" reply to a German demand for surrender at Bastogne in 1944. It was a spot-on analogy.

About your friend...

Marie Mason, a 47-year-old environmental activist, was sentenced Thursday to nearly 22 years in prison for a 1999 arson attack at Michigan State University’s Agriculture Hall that caused more than $1 million in damage.

...According to The Associated Press, Ms. Mason helped set the Michigan State fire along with her former husband, Frank Ambrose, as a protest against research into genetically modified crops.

That research surely could have helped quite a few places in the world like this for example...

Liberia Agriculture Decimated by Caterpillars

DAKAR - Liberia has declared a state of emergency in agricultural areas decimated by swarms of caterpillars. The government in Monrovia is asking for international assistance to turn back the pests that are destroying crops and polluting drinking water.

An infestation that began in Bong County has now spread to lower Lofa County and parts of Gbarpolu County along Liberia’s borders with Guinea and Sierra Leone.

“They are devouring forest trees, which we suspect were their host plants and from there they have now started to attack crop species,” said Qwelibo Subah, director general of Liberia’s Central Agricultural Research Institute.

The black, hairy caterpillars are about three centimeters long and are spreading quickly as adult moths can fly great distances at night. Subah says more than 130,000 people are now homeless in the affected areas where water is contaminated with caterpillar feces.

Who knows if what they were working on would have helped Liberia before that disaster but we will never know because of what your asshole friends did.

Of the people on that list, I support the majority of them (5 out of 6). It's pretty obvious that that list is a political hatchet job - there are far greater 'domestic terrorists' currently out there then someone who assaulted a cop during an 80s Anti-Apartheid protest.

re: #36 Dark_Falcon

The evidence is inconclusive as to whether she actually killed the cop. But since she was committing a felony while the murder happened, it doesn't really matter.

38 Red Falcons of America  Thu, Jan 3, 2013 3:02:05pm

Five separate trials, and with majority white juries, charges were dismissed because of lack of evidence or she was acquitted of all charges ranging from bank robbery to murder. Only in the final trial in 1977, where she was charged with the Turnpike killings, was she found guilty by an All White Jury. This even though forensic evidence taken that day showed that she had not fired a weapon.

The rapper Common agree's with me, and he was invited to the White House, so there must not be a problem saying that there was an injustice committed towards Assata.

Silly question, it's like asking an abortion clinic bomber "Are you a Catholic?"

The people who bomb in the name of "animal rights" are no different than the people who bomb in the name of "fetus rights"

45 Red Falcons of America  Thu, Jan 3, 2013 5:59:31pm

re: #44 Vicious Babushka

because fetuses are non-people.

Of course there is a major different in the political context. The motivation of the right-wing abortion bomber is the restrictions the rights of woman, while the animal rights person wishes to end a practice the majority of the western world agree is abhorrent (the use of intelligent beings as medical test subjects).

apparently, the PETA-hating "animal lovers" have no problem with cats and dogs being vivisected, which makes the critique of PETAs euthanasia policy incredibly hollow.

The amount of animal testing that involves vivisection is miniscule.

48 Dark_Falcon  Thu, Jan 3, 2013 7:06:08pm

re: #45 Red Falcons of America

That doesn't matter, because a bomb does not care who it kills when it detonates. Thus all bombing and firebombing are quite properly treated the same by criminal law. The use of terrorism to achieve a political goal is never acceptable. If the law is not to your liking, you may run for office, organize letter writing campaigns, protest publicly, make a documentary, or any of a hundred other non-violent things to advocate for your cause. But what you may not to do is resort to violence.

That's awesome!

I just rescued the sweetest little guy whose photo was so pathetic no one would have adopted him. He was petrified at the shelter and wouldn't even take a Wendy's hamburger from me when I met him (he was transported to northern IL from western IL and was so scared, not only wouldn't take some hamburger, but he plastered himself against the back of the crate and shook. It was heartbreaking.) Now, he's the sweetest, happiest little guy. I cry everytime I think that such a wonderful little man could have been killed.

The people coordinating rescue are volunteers who do great work for no pay. They truly care about these animals.

Why there are only 2 members of ALF left on the FBI's domestic terrorist list. An ALF member turned herself in to the FBI last month.

Eco-Terrorist Surrenders

After a decade as an international fugitive, Canadian citizen Rebecca Rubin gave up life on the run last week when she turned herself over to the FBI at the international border in Washington state.

The 39-year-old alleged member of the domestic terrorist cell called “The Family” will face federal arson charges for her role in the largest eco-terrorism case in U.S. history, known as Operation Backfire. With Rubin in custody, only two Family members remain at large.

Along with a dozen other conspirators, Rubin is charged with multiple crimes from 1996 through 2001 in the West and Pacific Northwest, including in Oregon, Colorado, and California. The Family committed an estimated $48 million worth of arson and vandalism under the names of the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front.

The cell’s most notorious crime was the 1998 arson of a Vail, Colorado ski resort that caused more than $24 million in damages and drew international attention to eco-terrorists—those who break the law in the misguided attempt to protect the environment and animal rights. The FBI took the lead in the Vail investigation, working closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, and in 2004, multiple eco-terrorism investigations were condensed into Operation Backfire.

What is the reason for destroying a ski resort? That makes no sense.
