How does Amazon list this as almost $600.00 when PC Magazine has a MSRP for the same model at $299.00?

I need a printer, but this one seems to have WiFi issues (which I have with my relatively new craptastic Lexmark - which replaced a much older and very fantastic Lexmark. Everything sucks on this new Lexmark from holding onto the WiFi connection to the scanning software. Why there is such a difference in the same class printer, I don’t know, but Lexmark lost me after I wasted a hundred plus dollars on this piece of shit.)

Doesn’t any company bother to make printers of any quality anymore?

Umm…no.
At the low end, printers are so cheap they’re disposable. The replacement cartridges coast as much as replacing the entire printer.

We do have an HP color laser that cost $700 a few years ago. It continues to be fine through it’s not used a lot. My cheaper printers work GREAT until they don’t. (About 2 years out.)

There really are some high-quality printers being made by Canon and Epson and other companies - but they’re about twice as expensive as the consumer models. They’re usually marketed as “small business” or “office” printers, and have more durable parts and larger ink tanks.

re: #3 Charles Johnson

Tell me about it. I’ve got a Canon Mach-something or other 9500 that takes car-payment level ink replacement.
