Why does Charles allow this bot to post?

2 Buck  Thu, Jan 10, 2013 5:35:08am

Why do you have a problem with it?

Seems to be that he is using the PAGES idea properly. The concept as I understood it was to be able to create your own blog.

This is abuse of the pages. The idea of PAGES is for members of LGF to create their own sub-blogs here in order to discuss with other members. A spambot which does nothing but spam links to an external blog without participating in the conversation is abusing LGF.

I disagree. I use the pages to share stories of interest to me that I believe others may like to read. Whether anyone discusses those stories is another matter entirely. I wish that they would, but my sense of self-worth is not diminished if they do not. Likewise, I find most of Aigle’s posts of interest. I would generally not go out and read the CAMERA site directly. So I appreciate the posts.

If aigle was a real person who actually hangs out and engages in conversation I would have no problem with these pages. But since it spams and scrams it is abusing a feature of LGF that really belongs to the folks who participate here.

Even so, the bot did perform a useful service here by calling attention to J Street’s mendacity.

Fine, think of me as the Aigle designated poster.

Frankly, it is not spam, and there are lots of people who “scram”. This is an intimidating group.

Seriously, a great majority of the posts on PAGES have zero comments. I don’t see how Participation is a requirement.

It’s not the number of comments PER PAGE, it’s the number of comments per PERSON, which in this bot’s case is ZERO. Zip, nada, goose egg, not one.

People here do not like aigle because it has never made a single comment or even an article excerpt from the links that it spams from Camera. It is an abuse of this forum by the Camera blog.

There are people behind this. I simply think it is rude to auto post to a discussion blog without participating at all. You can get an auto feed from the same sources if that is what you want to see.

Well, I don’t think that it is a good idea to make Rudeness disqualify them either. In my experience, make that a rule and this site will lose a lot of posters….heh.

We do all know that there is a human being behind CAMERA right? I mean they have automated the process, but there is a lizard at the other end.

For me it comes down to this, Andrea Levin is responding to the media’s “general anti-Israel bias”.

You either want to support their battle, or fight against them.

I stand with them.

If it doesn’t post a single comment, it’s not a lizard. It’s an egg. Not hatched yet.

Again, there are lots of people here who choose not to make comments. I really don’t understand why that would bother you so much.

Live and let live.
Judge not lest you be judged.

and my favorite:

I dream of a day where we view them by the content of their posts, and not by the numbers of their comments.

Maybe you guys are just disappointed that you can’t have a down ding party on their ass.

I really don’t get the attitude.

If you change that to content of their comments, you might start to understand.

But you’re Buck. You won’t understand.

But the real expression is content of their character and not the colour of their skin…

The whole point is to post good content. We should judge them by the content they post.

Frankly I understand why they would not want to engage people here in the time wasting feeding frenzy.

“show up to get beat up” isn’t a requirement as far as I know.

I mean I say that the Settlements in Israel are not illegal and I get a response back of “LOL”.

All I need to know is that CAMERA is the good guys. If you don’t think so, then that is another story. Don’t make this about formatting or comments. Speak up if you don’t support them because you don’t agree with them.

I don’t support using the Pages to pimp another site without engaging the commenters here, especially if no content is added beyond what is linked. That goes for anyone.

You don’t even know if this bot is male or female.

CAMERA is not one of my sources for information. I support Israel’s right to exist. I support anyone who wishes for and strives for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. I don’t support the expansion of the settlements.

Who said anything about being with them or against them?

Let me make a suggestion. You, Buck, can subscribe to Camera and ask them to be their front man on LGF. Then you can post pages to your heart’s content, and add your commentary. Then we will see whether people tend to agree or disagree.

Denmark Shows the World How to Stop Mass Medicating Animals
COPENHAGAN, Denmark -- Michael Nielsen unlocks the door to his pig factory. He doffs his jacket, pants and muddy boots and zips on white coveralls. Then he steps into the maze-like complex housing several thousand pigs. Fraternity Closes Chapter Following Vandalism of Statue
The chapter that might secretly want to wear pointy hoods to their toga parties... In the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 16, vandals placed a noose around the neck of the statue and draped over its face a pre-2003 Georgia state flag with a Confederate battle emblem. Why the Temperature of the Yellow Sea Is a Big Deal, and Other Questions About the South Korean Ferry Disaster
The boat ran into trouble several dozen miles from Jindo, an island that sticks out of South Korea's southwestern corner like a little toe. Jindo is surrounded by a group of even smaller islands that are slightly farther afield from the mainland. The ferry was curving around those small islands at the time it issued a distress call. What caused the disaster? We ...

Calgary stabbings: How knife crime in Canada can cause ‘moral panic’
What Calgary police chief Rick Hanson called the "worst mass murder" in the city's history didn't end at the barrel of a gun. Instead, the 22-year-old suspect identified on Tuesday as Matthew de Grood is accused of entering the kitchen at a house party, taking "a large knife" and using it to fatally stab four men and one woman, all of whom were students ...
