So his tamped-down rage becomes a torrent of increasingly baroque synonyms for death, which Cleese and Chapman composed with the aid of a thesaurus.

This would have been a tragedy on the level of the burning of the Library of Alexandria.

The PBS sale was fortunate for Python in more ways than one: when the offer came in, the BBC was on the point of wiping the tapes for reuse.

I choked on my pipe when I read that.

Most of the early Tonight Shows with Johnny Carson had a similar fate, IIRC. The kinescopes were trashed — to make room for something else, I suppose.

A lot of the early Doctor Who suffered that fate.

 Frank says:

For my taste, these solos (of some 50s blues guitarists) are exemplary because what is being played seems honest and, in a musical way, a direct extension of the personality of the men who played them. -- January 1977.
