Yes, because it’s such an advantage being part of a national security team and being unable to understand what some of your main terrorism targets are saying.*

This is stupid even for Gaffney. Oh my god Brennnan speaks Arabic, the horror!

I suppose speaking German would have been a negative attribute for the head of the OSS in WW2?

I think that we are passed the point where we can say that Gaffney’s dislike for a religion has progressed into hatred for an entire ethnicity or race.

Just hatred based on hatred. It’s the same crap that has people flipping out about the very word Allah even though Arab Christians use the word Allah too.

I am pretty sure Hebrew speaking Jews use the term Allah also though their way of saying the Semitic word comes out sounding like EL in Hebrew or Elyon.

Seriously, the level of sheer willful ignorance of the right wing is now bordering on brain damage.

We should have shot all those CIA agents who spoke Russian during the Cold War.

Because, like teaching slaves to read, knowing the language doesn’t make the reader dependent on the translator’s interpretations?

Not sure. I just know that Arabic Christians do as well. It’s all very stupid. Anyhow, I look at this way from a strictly intellectual pov, anyone’s who tough enough to brave Arabic language class has my admiration. I had a couple of friends in college who did. Yikes and I thought Spanish was tough.

I was just trying to show how stupid that is. I don’t get the right wing hatred for education and learning. It is as if they know they will lose followers if they get educated.

This is my first time here and it’s a great introduction to Little Green Footballs. Love it! re: #8 HappyWarrior
I teach Egyptian Arabic online and I’d be happy to give anyone who reads this a free trial. Just shoot me an email and I’ll get you on your way to learning Arabic.

The painful futility of war
This makes me furious. These men pledged their loyalty to their country and their country betrayed them. It treated them as disposable, throwing their lives away in a war that was premised on lies, that was chosen gleefully, and that ...

 Frank says:

Well, you know I've been here many times, and only certain hours of the day when I'm here am I asleep; the rest of the time I'm actually awake. -- I have a filler on a dat with zappa being interrogated by a couple of swedish fans/state officers(who knows)...in which they are arguing over the pornographic contents of his work. he tells them he has been spying on them, and claims that their porno industry is bigger than that of the US. it's pretty funny. btw-this is from thew '88 tour.
