Why would they make this up?

Interventionist reasons.

re: #3 Destro

The only reason this is a bad thing right now is because there is no side worth supporting.

Libya is turning out as I expected. A wobbly, post-revolutionary state. Like the US was at one point. Intervention can be a good thing.

However, I doubt this report. For one reason only. I can’t think of a time where a military used a Hallucinogen.

More likely would be contamination of food by Ergot.

True, though I can see Assad trying some sort of ‘deniable’ Chemwar agent. DoS would be more likely NOT to confirm it, given that if it were confirmed Assad was using WMDs (any weaponized hallucinogenic agent is a WMD, legally) it would virtually mandate intervention.

Bullshit. Tear gas is a chemical weapon. Phosphorus is a chemical weapon. Saying that is the trigger for intervention is insane.

Bullshit. The USA was not carrying on inter ethnic wars after the revolution.

re: #7 Destro

Yeah, the US was born perfect in every way, Native peoples respected and prospering, Black and White people living in harmony - North and South as one - no expansionist wars with it’s only neighbours. Oh, wait, actually America has history, not all of it pretty.

Libya went through hell under Q - he turned the people against each other quite deliberately (often with Western help), his fall was always going to be a mess and the Islamists were bound to pollute any liberation just as Communists would have in earlier generations

Any weapon that can cause mass destruction is a weapon of mass destruction.

Er. Yes it was. What the fuck sort of revisionist history is this?

We kept fighting the American Indians for more than a hundred years after the revolution.

You know full well the analogy is American on American fighting each other after the revolution (unless you want to include the Civil War a hundred years later). In Syria the revolution is really one underpinned by racial or religious animosities.

re: #8 Stoatly

The USA did not go through any thing like Yugoslavia did after her break up and Syria is more like Yugoslavia than anything else.

Breakup of Physician, Drug Company Relationship Could Improve Health Care, Cut Cost
May 20, 2013 -- A new report suggests that improved health care and significant reductions in drug costs might be attained by breaking up the age-old relationship between physicians and drug company representatives who promote the newest, more costly and often unnecessary prescription drugs. Sarah Palin: It Snowed in Alaska in May, So There Is No Global Warming
Global warming isn't happening, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) argued over the weekend, pointing to the fact that it was snowing in Alaska in May. We know how to reduce the incidence of common medical conditions but …
Obesity is on the rise-- as is the incidence of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and various forms of Cancer. And, shockingly, diseases that had in the past begun in old age are now appearing at much earlier ages. A groundbreaking scientific study showed how easily (and inexpensively) the rate of occurrence of these and other serious illness could be greatly reduced-- but this information ...

State-of-the-Art 19th-Century Torpedo Was Discovered by Navy Dolphins
In the late 19th century, the Howell torpedo was an incredibly advanced piece of military equipment, a breakthrough device in the United States' quest to achieve naval dominance. But only one surviving Howell torpedo was known to exist--until Navy dolphins nosed up another. The US Navy employs bottlenose dolphins to locate underwater military equipment that can't yet be detected by machines. Using their ...

The Greatest (Movie) Speech Ever Made
73 years later is still relevant and powerful as ever. It's also because of this movie that Charlie Chaplin was labelled a "premature anti-fascist."

 Frank says:

Americans like to talk about (or be told about) Democracy but, when put to the test, usually find it to be an 'inconvenience.' We have opted instead for an authoritarian system disguised as a Democracy. We pay through the nose for an enormous joke-of-a-government, let it push us around, and then wonder how all those assholes got in there.
