Two men were arrested in Ohio on Wednesday after their target practice with an AK-47 assault rifle accidentally shot up a woman’s home and nearly hit a officer who was responding to reports of gunfire.

“They were drinking alcohol, they had some drugs on them and they were just outside, in their backyard shooting paper targets,” Neil said. “They felt because they were shooting at a downward angle, that it would have been OK.”

Yes you need an AK-47 to shoot at paper targets. That target might assault me and I’d have to defend myself and my family. Everyone else’s family in the neighborhood you say? Oh… well… fuck em… they should get their own gun to protect themselves from people like me.

I think we might want a “Shooting” while intoxicated law. Maybe the same as DUI-.08 and with similar penalties. At the ranges where I shoot alcohol possession is forbidden. Not even for an after event BBQ. No beer.

What do you think? “Operating a firearm while intoxicated” sounds like a doable thing at the state level.

There is nothing wrong with shooting at paper targets for recreation. I have done it many times. With a semi automatic weapon, no less.

That sounds fine, but how about severe penalty for target shooting in your backyard in a neighborhood period. Incredibly stupid.

Aren’t there already laws that you aren’t supposed to target shoot in your backyard?

There should be a one-strike law with this kind of stupidity. Screw up with a gun doing something dumb and you lose your right to own a firearm. Period.
