In order for an establishment to be kosher, there has to be a mashgiach (supervisor) on site while food is being stored, prepared and served. I don’t know if halal requires the same level of oversight but in this instance it would have been necessary.

New York Kosher Label Act Is Constitutional, Court Says

By Bob Van Voris - May 10, 2012 11:38 AM ET

A New York law regulating the marketing and labeling of kosher food doesn’t violate the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled, rejecting a First Amendment challenge.

A three-judge panel of the court in New York today affirmed a lower-court ruling that upheld the law, which replaced an earlier version the court overturned in 2002. The appeals court said the Kosher Law Protection Act of 2004 doesn’t violate First Amendment provisions restricting laws relating to religion.

“The Kosher Act merely requires food products marketed as kosher to be labeled as kosher,” U.S. Circuit Judge Christopher Droney wrote. “The Kosher Act does not entangle the state with religion because it does not require the state to enforce laws based on religious doctrine or to inquire into the religious content or religious nature of the products sold.”

The court also rejected a challenge to the law as unconstitutionally vague.
The appeal was filed by a Long Island butcher shop and delicatessen, Commack Self-Service Kosher Meats Inc.

The case is Commack Self-Service Kosher Meats v. Hooker, 11-3517, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (Manhattan).

I wouldn’t touch McDonald’s food with a 10-foot pole, but thanks for posting this. I wish I could’ve seen Pam’s face when she heard about it. LOL

Nope, no on-site supervisor required.

I am very glad there are no kosher McDonalds, their “food” is all crap.

The McDonalds in Israel serves kosher. Some are even open on pesach with special “buns.”

Wikipedia has an article with a detailed comparison between halal and kosher. [Link: en.wikipedia.org…]

I feel sorry for anyone in Israel who feels the need to eat at a McDonald’s on Pesach. That’s just pathetic.

It’s all religious BULLSHIT .Lets hear it from the catholics now , that there may be some animal fat in the cooking oil for french fries on Fridays . I don’t care who wins the lawsuit as long as both sides get a headache . They all deserve one another .All the food in this country is adulterated in one way or another anyway , so no one knows what the hell they’re eating .
