I have, I’ve shared, and I’ve been very disheartened that we can’t even get 25,000 signatures…that coupled with an asshole on a board I’m on who thinks women are the “weaker sex” and, of course, using that in a derogatory manner. Ugh.

It was posted about 1 hour ago on fb by the MS Foundation (as in MS Magazine), so I gather it is a recent petition.

3 Sionainn  Sun, Jan 27, 2013 7:11:31am

I’ve been sharing it for the past week or so on Facebook as has a friend of mine (I got it from her). I’m not even getting any “likes” from any of my friends (except my activist aunt), the majority on there being women. I just don’t get it.

How would that matter? The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA2 for me ‘ERA’ having another meaning for me) had a ten year time limit for ratification, a limit long expired. Once that limit was exceeded, the amendment would have to pass both houses of Congress again by a 2/3rds vote.

(Post copied to George Will Front Page as well.)

I get very few likes and a few “unfriends” from women. They just can’t be bothered, or don’t like my style.

Every once in a while I get a private note that someone appreciated my post, or it caused them to think and change their ideas about things.

Mostly, I think people are weird about sharing their beliefs (political or otherwise) on a public (or semi-public) internet forum.

I would appreciate it very much DF.

Would you send me an email?

Out of curiosity as well as doing anything and everything to avoid starting my work or cleaning my house, I went through the petition, 20 names at a time, to find out when it was started…January 11.

I think that people are under the impression that an ERA is not needed any more, but I think it’s needed now more than ever, particularly since there are so many who would take away the very basic right to making decisions about one’s own body.

It didn’t work for me, since I don’t use Yahoo or Gmail.

Never let stupid people get to you. Having to live their whole lives inside their own twisted imaginations is suitable punishment for being what they are. You don’t need to give those dead-enders another thought. We just need to marginalize these harmful people, and I’ve seen huge progress on that front in the past 30 years.

We used to take it for granted that ignorant, hateful people were in charge, and that they had the authority of a supernatural being.
The Internet has helped a lot to push back against the superstitions and bigotries of that type, and to gain acceptance for people who aren’t heterosexual WASPs.

You’re right, it didn’t. Weird because when I checked the box, my email address showed up in the email line.

I’ve signed the petition, and emailed my friends.

It’s been reported that we now need 100K signatures for the administration to respond to a petition, because the user-base of the we-the-people petitions is a lot larger than it once was. We have a long way to go to 100K.
