So now we add Colorado to the list. What are we up to now nationwide WRT to creationist bills? Colorado, Montana, Missouri, Indiana…

Update:

BREAKING: Colorado Anti-Evolution Bill Is “DOA”
By Phil Plait
Posted Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 9:03 PM ET

Very hopeful news: Representative Claire Levy (D-District 13), the Chair of the Colorado House Appropriations Committee, said a bill that would allow “academic freedom”—code for allowing creationism to be taught in the classroom—is “DOA”.

She appeared on Denver’s AM 760 radio talking to host Geoff Berg (she comes on at the 19:30 mark). He asked her about the bill, and she replied:

“The bill looks innocuous enough when you read it…but when you look beneath the surface it’s pretty obvious it’s…allowing science teachers to teach creationism and deny global warming. Democrats are about teaching real science and giving students a good education. So I don’t think it’ll make it out of committee.”

Continues.

Here’s the main sponsor.

Dear Fellow Patriots,

In the midst of an incredibly busy political time, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your commitment to helping me pass our first big hurdle in the campaign for House District 48.

Simply put, without your generosity, winning this race wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you.

This year, we have seen an UNPRECEDENTED level of radical liberalism/progressivism here in Colorado.

Because of your generosity, the Humphrey for House team will be able to continue working non-stop to not only spread the constitutional conservative message across our district, but more importantly carry the message direct to Denver.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank you for your prayers. We both know this is a battle for hearts and minds in Colorado and across the nation. And when we experience victories, we will surely look back upon our sincere appeals to Providence to find their source. Please continue to pray for another great awakening to move across our land.

Thank you again for your generosity. Rest assured your hard-earned time, money, and prayer will be forever appreciated.

Gratefully,

-Steve Humphrey
Republican Nominee-House District 48

“Appeals to Providence.”

“Appeals to Providence.”

He might want to look into italicizing “UNPRECEDENTED” as well. Scarier, you know?

Dear Fellow Patriots,

Because of these wingnuts, they’ve turned this word into a slur to me.

Thanks for that update, I added it.

One wonders why religion jaundiced folk gain political status in the USA.
Still the rise of the disbelievers may encourage thinking children to read the
God Delusion?

Global Issues: U.S. Charities Proselytize Overseas Using Public Funds
It's unconstitutional for faith-based organizations (FBOs) to proselytize using public funds, but some FBOs manage to circumvent these rulings by conducting their evangelistic charity projects overseas. In a recent article for Firstpost, an Indian website, Rupa Subramanya argues that ...

Are conservatives anti-science?
Are conservatives anti-science? Spoiler: Conservatives aren't anti-science or pro-science. But, they are pro-common-sense. And once more scientists adopt common sense approach to science, they'll find that they have the support of conservative politicians - the people whose job it is ...

Here is an interesting article on one of Tail Gunner Joe's sick witch hunts that has, unfortunately, been forgotten. I try not to feel schadenfreude of the fate of McCarthy's side kick, Ray Cohn, but I never succeed.

Eric Alterman: A Wake-Up Call for US Liberals
