This article needs a little bit of clarification - the coach in question, is a high school football coach - and is in serious trouble.

Lauderdale County Schools Superintendent Jennifer Gray confirmed to The TimesDaily that Lauderdale County High School coach Bob Grisham was being investigated after an anonymous source provided a tape of him allegedly using the slurs.

The audio clip begins with Grisham asking several young men if they knew who was behind the “600-calorie lunches” provided by public schools.

“Fat butt Michelle Obama,” Grisham says. “Look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. She’s overweight.”

“Big fat gorilla,” a male voice agrees.

If Alabama is punishing wingnuts in positions of responsibility who misbehave, maybe we’re not doing so badly after-all.

Ah, I’m from the South. And I love football.

Hope he’s toast by the time I type this.

I taught in small towns in GA for 33 years, and I think it will depend upon whether the members of the BOE like him and share his political views. Also, if a large number of the citizens come out to support him, it can make a lot of difference in whether he is fired or lives to coach another day.

Agreed. He didn’t slap down the “Big fat gorilla,” a male voice agrees. comment.

That tells you all you need to know.

Simply a question as I’m obviously missing something. You say this article needs clarification then you quote from the article and get 8 updings. I’m sure they’re appropriate but I’m clueless.

Thank you for any additional information.

I thought the irony meter had already done a 360 with the needle flying off into space when Rush Limbaugh called her fat. He doesn’t talk much about “queers” any more, for obvious reasons.

True enough, but on this side of the Chattahoochee it really depends on his won/lost record.

My guess would be that the headline suggests it’s Nick Saban, or someone on his staff.

re: #10 Three Chord Monty

Hmm ok. Used their headline and it doesn’t say University of Alabama or anything and the lead line in the quote says Grisham not Saban but maybe everyone doesn’t know he’s Alabama’s coach.

Personally I’m an Auburn fan so believe me, I’d have put UA up there if it were true.

WAR EAGLE!

Have to admit I thought it could have been Saban too. No worries though. Anyhow as for the story. What a dimwit? Really, dude, you need to motivate your players by bitching about Michelle Obama?

Sorry for the late reply to this (now mostly-dead) thread - wasn’t monitoring it very closely for replies.

Was just going to suggest that you might have wanted to include in the subheading that the story referred to a high school coach. The main headline made it look like it referred to the University of Alabama (who at one time were a central focus of the Civil Rights era).

Douglas Rushkoff on Present Shock: When Everything Happens Now
The always-on, simultaneous society in which we have found ourselves has altered our relationship to culture, media, news, politics, economics, and power. We are living in a digital temporal landscape, but instead of exploiting its asynchronous biases, we are misguidedly attempting to extend the time-is-money agenda of the Industrial Age into the current era. The result is a disorienting and dehumanizing mess, where the ...

The GOP’s Steve King Problem
Earlier this year, the Republican National Committee released a 100-page report detailing how the GOP needed to retrofit its agenda and soften its tone. But if Republican officials had wanted to save time, they could have issued a shorthand summary that read: Be less like Steve King. The Iowa congressman's outspoken conservatism embodies the kind of politics that, in the RNC's own words, alienates ...
