All hail lord Satan and his minions! May he strike down and destroy any and all Christian sheep who stand against us!

Amen.

Johnnie… take this pass and go to the principals office.

“…nor the constitution of any state, shall be construed to require that vocalized prayer or the silent meditation thereof be abridged to any student in class or any organized school function or athletic event.”

Wait until a Muslim student brings out his prayer rug in the middle of class and kneels eastward. You just might see some “abridging”.

Idiocy. So if I start a cult, and decide that public religious observances must be made by my followers on freeways during morning and evening rush hour, this nonsense should be constitutionally protected?

Someone needs a remedial writing class.

I think the freeway argument is invalid, as people have the right not to be arbitrarily arrested by random strangers, at least so far as the First Amendment is concerned. In DC, for example, you can start a protest march without a permit but you can not block all the lanes of traffic.

The real meat of this proposed amendment is that it wants to allow organized prayer in school: both in class and at official school functions like athletic games. But people of late have become more confident in their right to throw a wrench into such things by promoting their own peculiar religious niche—how long before pastafarians are demanding equal time?

The only way to prevent the ensuing ridicule of religious institutions would be to declare that only one particular sect has the right to preside at such ceremonies, and which sect shall it be? Thomas Jefferson made a similar point to convince pastors to sign on to the idea of separation of state and religion.

So, good luck with that, Representative Dixon.

Well, it could be found “constitutional” if they changed the Constitution via an amendment to say it!

It would create a great big mess, though!

The thinking behind these rules is especially offensive to me, as a person of faith.

My religion has rigid rules regarding certain prayers, how many people need to be present, and even if men or women can say them. A forced “prayer” at a Football game is simply not warranted. And I’m a person who starts and ends each day with a prayer.

Nobody is stopping kids from praying at home before they get to school, praying at home after they get home, or praying during recess or free time.

I agree that the freeway argument is an exaggeration. However, the first sentence of section 2 has nothing to do with school prayer, and appears to create a new right of public prayer regardless of time or location.

Idiots. I’m sure the proponents of this amendment won’t have any problem with Muslim students doing their prayers in the middle of class or during the football game, along with a locally broadcast call to prayer five times a day.

The people who created our Constitution didn’t do everything right, obviously, but compared to the complete morons we have in politics today, they remain giants.

dragonfire1981,

As unlikely as it is, it saddens me that this thing would get even enough support to make the news.

Off course most of them probably will be upset when they learn that people of other faiths besides Christianity, will want to take advantage as well, as if anyone with common sense wouldn’t know that. Off course, they’ll be really upset when Muslims start demanding school prayer. I can already hear the cries of “creeping sharia / stealth jihad” now.

12 Tigger2005  Wed, Feb 6, 2013 8:04:20pm

So they want the school day to start with the clear call of the muzzein?

13 Tigger2005  Wed, Feb 6, 2013 8:05:31pm

How about we consider this amendment if we can take a look at revising the Second Amendment to bring it into the modern world.

Didn’t think so.

14 Destro  Wed, Feb 6, 2013 10:41:47pm

Can I sing this during prayer time?

To these people, there is only one sanctioned religion, with a grudging acceptance of Judaism only because they know there would be a shitstorm if they said what they really believe about it. No other religion exists, or has any right of free expression in their version of the US.

Which is why I don’t want to live in their version of the US and I don’t think you do either.
