North Dakota GOP wants to charge poor people for welfare
North Dakota has decided to try the failed experiment of drug testing applicants for welfare, despite the fact that it’s been a colossal waste of money everywhere it’s been implemented.
But don’t worry, because the North Dakota Republican Party has a plan to deal with that:
A proposal to require drug testing for some North Dakota welfare recipients puts an unfair burden on the needy and might be unconstitutional, state and social services officials said Monday.
‘Several Republican lawmakers are pushing the measure, which also would require applicants of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to pay for the drug testing themselves before getting assistance.
Yes, you read that right. In order for a family to get the aid they’re entitled to, the GOP wants the family to pay for the drug test the GOP has mandated. The testing can cost as much as $100 and can only be done at approved facilities, meaning access to the test is severely limited to rural applicants.
Your modern GOP, doing all they can to screw over the poor.
