Clearly this bigot should not be employed in the public school system. Can you imagine if she was helping organize an all-white prom?

I always have to heave a sigh and roll my eyes whenever self-proclaimed Christians indignantly declare that homosexuality defies “the word of God”. This argument is both cowardly and disingenuous — using biased interpretations of cherry-picked biblical passages to justify their brand of social intolerance and religious self-righteousness.

Once again we see the direct correlation between the extent of a religion’s orthodoxy and the magnitude of its members’ intolerance of those with differing points of view or who do not share their tenets, politics, mores, or lifestyle choices.

Yet another reason why religious dogma and public policy make poor bedfellows, and why people who promote religion-based intolerance, discrimination, and bigotry have no business working at a public school.

“Christians have always been prepared for a fight, but Jesus Christ give us armor for the front, not the back,” Phegley said. “We aren’t running no more.”

What the fuck is this moron talking about?

Just ask to be shown a direct quote from Jesus denouncing what we call LGBT. There are none. People write gibberish and try to have you make a leap to an unfounded lie. It’s the New Testament. Judge not. These people are following the word of man and telling you “God” is their compass. They are incapable of living and let live. Not very Christ like IMHO.

In the book of Ephesians there is a passage pertaining to the “Armor of God”

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Notice the list of armor pieces includes a breastplate but not any protective piece for the back. That’s what he meant by Jesus giving only armor for the front.

Of course the stupid thing is that this scripture is meant to teach people to be good stewards of the faith, which the people at the school mentioned above most certainly are not.

Thank you. I note that Ephesians is one of the books thought to have been written pseudonymously, that is not by Paul at all but by someone writing in his name.

I get offended for Christians that do not belong to these people’s individual sect.

Not all Christians believe this yet fundie right wing Evangelicals always use the pan term “Christian” when they speak of their sect.

Indeed, some of the biggest critics of this bigot have been Christians. And quite frankly I am sick of people like this teacher claiming they’re the victims and fighting some noble battle. THere’s nothing noble about telling a gay kid he’s evil because he’s gay.

Local pastor Bill Phegley remarked that he supported the straight prom movement because Christians in Sullivan were no longer going to be silent about their opposition to homosexuality.

“Christians have always been prepared for a fight, but Jesus Christ give us armor for the front, not the back,” Phegley said. “We aren’t running no more.”

So very courageous, aren’t they?
