Note: May be behind a paywall

It’s pretty easy to tell if something is behind a paywall or not, and this is if you’ve visited the site more than a few times, so should not be linked unless you’re looking to annoy people.

Deleting cookies will grant access, but why bother when a newspaper doesn’t want us to read their articles?

Good point, I’ll try to get another source. I am a paid subscriber so didn’t even think before posting. Boston.com is free and contains most of the Boston Globe articles, but BostonGlobe.com is paid.

Google REALLY loves LGF. I searched for one of the quotes above to see if I could find that article elsewhere and this page showed up, 10 minutes after I posted it :)

Interesting. Never knew Whitey was so opinionated about busing. Anyhow, thing about Reagan Democrats is a lot of them made the mistake of thinking Reagan was their friend even though he was very anti union. I think it’s because Reagan made the GOP more on the surface a blue collar party as opposed to the more patrician Republican party of the 50’s which was actually more progressive and receptive to their interests. Plus Reagan liked wearing his Irish heritage on his sleeve and that’s always appealing to some Irish Americans. Also, Reagan did exploit the bigotry of voters too I feel.

Seeing that you paged it, I’ll repeat what I posted in the other thread

Cool. I actually “met’ him back in the mid 80’s.

I place “met” in quotes because at the time I didn’t realize who it was.

At that time I owned a small business that sold/ installed/ maintained satellite dish systems (pre- Direct TV) for bars, restaurants/ hotels/ homes. Whitey was the silent owner of South Boston’s Triple O’s bar (amongst others). I went there one day to sell them a dish and the guy I was pitching it to walked me over to a booth and intro’d me to his ‘partner” Without getting up from the table, he shook my hand, asked how much the system would be ($2500 installed) , reaching into his pocket and said “10% discount for cash, right?” and handed me the money on the spot

Only after did I realize who it was
I was pitching a system to another Southie bar the same day, and when I said “yeah ,, Triple O’s is getting one” the owner of the 2nd place said “Oh, thats Whiteys place. he’s always there”

And to answer your question>>

No. I moved from Boston 14 years ago but still go back regularly and yes, Broadway Station (as well as many of the old T stops) is way different
