Another family values hypocrite. Seems like it’s prerequisite to being a Republican elected official. It’s not so much to be an adulterer, it’s to as many of these Republicans did to President Clinton and acted like President Clinton’s adultery brought shame on the nation.

re: #1 HappyWarrior

They used what they could to try and destroy Clinton - if they could have impeached Clinton for jaywalking they would have. Like always, be it family values or some foreign policy issue, the GOP plays wedge issue politics to stay in power - I doubt any of them in power are true believers.

Schadenfreude-astic smackdown here:

Former Republican senator knocks up fellow senator’s daughter. But just the one time!

Now, far be it from us to judge what happens behind closed doors between consenting adults. After all, it’s really no one’s business if the former senator of New Mexico was diddling a colleague’s daughter behind his wife’s back. Clearly, such a private matter is nobody’s business, and we should all stay out of it.

Oh, unless that senator happens to believe that the government has a vested interest in what happens behind closed doors between consenting adults, women have no right to privacy at all, and adultery “rise[s] to the level of impeachable offenses that the Founding Fathers envisioned.”

In fact, when he was a senator, Domenici was perfectly happy to invade the privacy of others and legislate what happens between consenting adults. Like all his votes to discriminate against gays and lesbians. Like all his votes to regulate vaginas—because while he believed that the woman he impregnated had a right to privacy, that right does not extend to women he didn’t impregnate.

But at least, classy guy that he is, Domenici has finally come clean—decades later—to his family, and he’s very sorry:

I deeply regret this and am very sorry for my behavior.

Yeah. Sure is awful when people think what happens in your private life is somehow their business, isn’t it?

So I guess his ticket to hell is punched? Nah. He’s special.

Global Issues: U.S. Charities Proselytize Overseas Using Public Funds
It's unconstitutional for faith-based organizations (FBOs) to proselytize using public funds, but some FBOs manage to circumvent these rulings by conducting their evangelistic charity projects overseas. In a recent article for Firstpost, an Indian website, Rupa Subramanya argues that ...

Here is an interesting article on one of Tail Gunner Joe's sick witch hunts that has, unfortunately, been forgotten. I try not to feel schadenfreude of the fate of McCarthy's side kick, Ray Cohn, but I never succeed.

Eric Alterman: A Wake-Up Call for US Liberals
A short column in The Nation that is a must read. The primary difference between liberalism and conservatism, at least in theory, is that the latter is an ideology and the former isn't. Conservatism, as Milton Friedman argued, posits that ...

The NSA Has Taken Over the Internet Backbone. We’re Suing to Get It Back.
