As the product gets more concentrated, we’re heading for 100% pure wingnut.

To increase their popularity, the GOP needs to rid itself of any remaining members that do not pass the purity test. Only when all the RINO’s who are spoiling the Party get kicked to the curb will millions of new Republicans emerge to bring the GOP back.

It’s just after an election loss. They aren’t going to have people eagerly admitting to being supporters.

But I do think this shows an important trend. If these polls would stop using the catch-all “independents” and exposed the label Libertarian to the public more, I think we’d see a viable third party split from the GOP. Over a third of the people sampled in the poll were “Independents.” And Immigration is splitting them as a party, the Pew poll confirms this. Moderation and bipartisanship in general are exposing the rifts. The party of David Frum is not the same party of Ted Nugent. And they know it. Frankly I’m surprised the party hasn’t formally broken up yet.

Well, as much as the Democrats piss off people, they haven’t been actively trying to piss off large segments of the population.

78% of the population doesn’t want to look like random Yahoo News posters or the dude who rants about Obama’s race wars at holiday parties.

Well since most people in this country are rather good at ignoring history or even having a working memory that can remember events past a time frame of say six months to a year, I really don’t have much confidence in this staying the same.

All it will take is one misstep over the next four years or so by the president or congress. Say a perceived overreach in some legislative battle over taxes or the machinations of the welfare state, and Republicans will come storming back through a campaign of fear mongering that will make those people forget that they once agreed with the president that ruling class should need to pay their share into the social coffers.

The Republicans will just put a new veneer to their already repugnant policy agenda, and everything will be right again in America, where the shining city on the hill is always right on the cusp of reality, yet it always seems as if its slipping away from view a little more every year.

Call me cynical, but it always happens and it seems naive to think that it won’t again.

You’re right. Just look at how everybody has forgotten what a world of hurt the country was in during the last horrible year of Shrub. Yet you’ll be hard pressed to find any media or other mention of it when talking about the Republicans today, even though Bush 2007 is what they want to go back to.

Your Weekly Peggy Noonan Three Martini Column
We are in the midst of the worst Washington scandal since Watergate. The reputation of the Obama White House has, among conservatives, gone from sketchy to sinister, and, among liberals, from unsatisfying to dangerous. No one likes what they're seeing. The Justice Department assault on the Associated Press and the ugly politicization of the Internal Revenue Service have left the administration's credibility deeply, ...

4 Things We Should Remember When Arguing About Politics
Political discourse in America has reached levels of douchebaggery previously only theorized about but never observed, like conversational dark matter. We're in a whole new world of hating people based solely on their opinions on a few key issues, and since this is unexplored territory, our conversations about politics are usually only a couple notches beyond the "hold your breath until the other ...

LAPD Reformed as Federal Oversight Lifted, City Leaders Say
Los Angeles leaders say the Los Angeles Police Department has undergone a dramatic transformation since federal oversight of the agency was ordered 12 years ago. The dismissal Wednesday of the so-called consent decree, which arose largely out of the Rampart corruption scandal and addressed basic problems of accountability that stretched back decades, delivered a largely symbolic, but nonetheless important milestone for the LAPD ...

What to do in Orange County - LA - San Diego
Seems a good way to solicit ideas for touristing destinations and activities. Will have 4-5 days so some opportunity for visiting multiple sites. And since I do have an interest in history and military history items in that area will be welcome suggestions. (The USS Midway down in San Diego is already on the list.) If there is anything California-geology related that would be ...
