People are so concerned about overreaching Federal Power and dwindling States Rights, but it seems the Federal Government is the only entity women can rely on to mete out justice.

Precisely. It’s one of the numerous reasons they hate it so much.

If we didn’t have a strong federal government and every state was allowed to do its own thing unchecked, we’d most likely look like a very large Afghanistan in no time flat, with each state having its own “warlord” and militia.

From what I’ve seen the wingnuts know this and want this. They know they’ll never be more than small fish in a big pond so they’re trying to shrink the pond by dividing it up into fifty (or more) smaller ponds.

Then they’ll be important.

Treasonous loons.

It continues to amaze me that these states keep filing these types of lawsuits that make me wonder where their attorneys general attended law school and how they were able to get law licenses and get elected. I’m only a retired high school social studies teacher ( no law school,) and I know that the Supremacy Clause doesn’t allow any state to deprive its’ citizens of federal program like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. It is very embarrassing for me to witness these tools waste taxpayers’ money on these frivolous lawsuits that are based only on their personal beliefs/religion. These are the same tools who stand up and accuse PBO of being a big spender!! I certainly hope that voters choose someone better than Jan Brewer as their next governor, who, imo, has been a disaster for the state. It seems that it’s been very easy for any tool to convince her to go along with ever RW crackpot idea in existence. The sanest decision she has made since taking office has been to agree to the Medicaid expansion in the ACA.

Seriously. I was just standing in the kitchen cooking and thinking about America without a federal government:

The Mexican cartels would immediately move into the Southwest border states, and Texas farmers would be growing new, more profitable, crops (the way they grow opium in Afghanistan). That means the governors of those states would have to expend a lot of resources dealing with that, and the Mexicans would no doubt fund & arm insurgents.

In other states, the Christian Dominionists/Deconstructionists would immediately try to seize power and implement a theocracy, which would cause all kinds of chaos when secularists and other non-Christians started bucking their plans. Then there would also be the white nationalists/separatists to contend with. If given a place at the table (or if they came out on top), minority guerrilla insurgent groups would spring up all over the place; if marginalized, they’d likely become a nasty thorn in the side of the “race traitor” state governments.

I know I have an overactive imagination and it sounds really freaky & way out there, but after what I’ve seen over the past 4-5 years I could totally see it happening if each state had to fend for itself.

If the average American could follow us around 24/7 and see how boringly ordinary most American Muslims’ lives are (aside from our “exotic” dress & prayer rituals) they’d be terribly disappointed, heh.

For what its worth, Brewer also vetoed a birther bill, so that’s two things she got right.

It’s why I say that the next American Civil War will resemble the Yugoslavian Civil War.

The same people will win the former that won the latter: nobody.

And the Republican field is likely to keep growing: state Sen. Joni Ernst, Secretary of State Matt Schultz and Iowa GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker have expressed interest in the race. An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
