“Gotta spend ammo to get ammo.”

2 freetoken  Mon, Feb 25, 2013 7:51:34pm

Guns are drawn because that what these guys do. Their self-image is built around an old, tribalistic idea that the guy who is the most successful fighter gets to be the leader (and thus have the most reproductive opportunities.)

It’s a biology thing, so in part I can’t help but have sympathy. Yet it also shows how backwards these people are - they really, really don’t want to live in the 21st century.

…snip - they really, really don’t want to live in the 21st century.

Gun can help with that, too—and often does.

Then you don’t have to feel sympathy at all, because it’s not really a “biology thing.” As we’ve gotten better at observing animals, the less and less the concept of “an alpha” holds up as being about dominance through aggression. Indeed, aggression tends to lead to mighty warrior leaders that drop dead, get ousted, or get killed in a very short period of time, and don’t even necessarily manage to spread their genes around via the strategy (Read Sapolsky).

So social indiscretions, as egregious as they may be, are now grounds to commit murder. Killing someone because they cut in line. Utterly amazing and unhinged at the same time.

Texas..it was almost a good idea!

This is a prime example of the “mental health” issue when it comes to PROPER gun legislation. Also I would seriously go as far as to require religious affiliation and the severity of the prospective gun purchasers depth of faith on applications as these are DIRECTLY proportionate to the loss of common sense and the ability to function in a normal society. No IF’S and or But’s!

Seriously, I hate the paranoia has made ammunition so scarce. I wanted to go target shooting on my property the other day (I live in a rural area far from city limits, I’m not a fool) but couldn’t because I don’t have much ammo at the moment and have had no luck finding any recently.

The NRA gun fetishists are so easily fooled and manipulated. I remember going to a gun show right before the 2008 elections and the utter propaganda and fear mongering by the dealers AND buyers was immense. I’ve been going to gun shows since I was a teenager and until recently I never saw people buying multiple cases of ammo. I hope the dealers are raping these idiots with inflated prices.

So much for that armed society being a polite one huh. Really, if you’re bringing out your gun over an argument about place in line, then you’re a frigging idiot.

ARGH!!British Ad Campaign Uses Image of Old Pregnant Woman to Scare Women Into Having Babies Younger
While pregnant teens are being shamed for making bad choices in the US, a new ad campaign in Britain is tackling the other side of the spectrum with an arresting image of a pregnant old woman. Iowa Republican Senate Primary 2014 a Free-for-All - Alexander Burns
And the Republican field is likely to keep growing: state Sen. Joni Ernst, Secretary of State Matt Schultz and Iowa GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker have expressed interest in the race. Mark Jacobs, a wealthy former oil executive who heads an education nonprofit, has also popped up at local GOP events in recent weeks and met with the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Democrats, meanwhile, ...

An Interplanetary GPS Using Pulsar Signals
Spacecraft could determine their position anywhere in the solar system to within five kilometres using signals from x-ray pulsars, say astronomers. Navigating in space is a tricky business. The usual method relies on Earth-based tracking stations to work out a spacecraft's distance using radio waves, a process that is accurate to within a metre or so. That's fine for the radial distance, but ...

4 Reasons ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ Is Secretly About Drugs
Nice, right? Anyway, here's my thesis: Raiders of the Lost Ark is not an action-adventure movie about an archaeologist who plays by his own rules and saves the day. Instead, the film is an exploration of Marion Ravenwood's crippling drug addiction. An addiction that was born from her unhealthy relationship and continued association with Indiana Jones. Is it true? Who cares. Can I prove ...

There Is No Such Thing Really as Professional Photographers
there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. Certainly there is varying levels of skills, but we didn't want to have a Flickr Pro anymore, we wanted everyone to have professional quality photos, space, and sharing." - Marissa Mayer, Yahoo ...

WAPO’s Glenn Kessler Gives Three “Pinocchios” To Claim of Doctored Emails
It has long been part of the Washington game for officials to discredit a news story by playing up errors in a relatively small part of it. Pfeiffer gives the impression that GOP operatives deliberately tried to "smear the president" with false, doctored e-mails. But the reporters involved have indicated they were told by their sources that these were summaries, taken from notes ...
