WTF??

I saw this when Musawah tweeted an alert about it.

The excuse is that they’re not actually punishing her for being raped by her stepfather, but because during the “investigation” (ie, the blaming the victim and digging into her sexual history that always seems to happen in rape cases even here), authorities discovered that she had consensual sex with someone else at some other time.

One commenter on the article about this that was posted at an independent Maldives news website asked the pertinent question, “Well, it takes two to fornicate so what’s happened to the men?”

Another commenter noted that the current president of the Maldives was an important official with UNICEF before becoming a politician, which adds pressure on the government to do something about what’s happening to this girl.
