I don’t personally need gigabyte download, but that is because I don’t have access to services that require it, and whatever they may be I won’t get them since the “innovators” assume I don’t want them; or it could be because it is more profitable to provide mediocre service (less than most other advanced nations) rather than lead?//

The USA is after all the best example of free enterprise in the world, is it not?

Once upon a time, a lot of us (yes, me too) said businesses didn’t need more than 48K RAM. While we were right at the instant we said it, what we meant was wrong. What we meant was that the 64K showing up in games was “just” for gamers, and even then there wasn’t really a need for more. No, our computers were already outrunning the 300 baud modems and were more than enough to handle the monocolor high-res graphics of the time. There just wasn’t need for that kind of speed.

As I said, we were wrong. We really weren’t looking at tomorrow, much less a few years down the road.

TimeWarner isn’t even looking at today. 1GB ports are built into the computers — CAT6 LANs are becoming pretty much typical. Businesses and individuals would be overjoyed if speeds to the community and world were comparable to speeds inside their network.

Idiots.

America’s Internet is in the hands of short-sighted fools.

There’s a big need to line their pockets however.

America’s internet is going to resemble a Tar and Chip road while the rest of the world zooms by. Technology? Ain’t that science or sumpin?

This is Time Warner spin, because they are getting absolutely hammered in the Kansas City marketplace right now. Google cable/gigabit internet is so popular, the have accelerated the planned expansion to include five new surrounding communities, and have plans for at least a dozen new cities within 12 months’ time.
The cable service matches up almost exactly with what Time Warner offers, with one exception: Time Warner channels (HBO/Cinemax, etc) aren’t offered because Time-Warner is wanting to charge exorbitant fees to Google to carry their channels.

Screw Time Warner, we have better options.

You call those better options? The internet was invented thanks in large and most parts to govt money raised via taxing the people. Why should you pay those insane prices for something YOUR tax money invented?

Capitalism. It makes the people happy to be taken from and then made to buy back their own stuff.

Gail has said in interviews that one of the things that makes our relationship work is the fact that we hardly ever get to talk to each other.
