Two Killed in Rishon Lezion Underworld Car Bombing
Unclear if explosion was an intentional hit or if the bomb went off by mistake in a “work accident.”
Two men were killed in a car bombing in central Rishon Lezion on Thursday morning, in the latest of several criminal bombings to take place in central Israel in the past few months.
It is still unclear if the two men were killed in an intentional hit, or if they were transporting a bomb that went off prematurely, what police typically refer to as “a work accident”.
Hours after the bombing police named the victims as Modi’in resident Shmulik David, 28, and Rishon Letzion resident Alex Lerner, 24. Both are known to be members of a local criminal organization.
Also after the bombing, police detained three suspects in connection to the explosion. By mid-afternoon police had attained a sweeping gag order restricting the reporting of virtually all aspects of the investigation, which will be handled by the YAMAR investigative district, in conjunction with the LAHAV 433 unit.
