Looks like he wants to be president. Of course there’s no president of the confederacy position anymore, so I don’t think that’s going to work out for him.

Jeb would do well to remember Senator McCain who too had a reputation of being reasonable on this issue but then moved to the right on the issue to pander to the GOP base.

Romney as well. His aggressive move to get to the right of Perry on immigration and his “self-deportation” comment cost him any chance he may have had to win over Hispanics. With his family’s Mexican roots, one would think he would’ve had a chance to connect with them, but he blew it. Considering how weak the GOP field was, Romney made a huge miscalculation. He should’ve taken a slight risk in the primaries and stayed in the center to maintain his viability in the general election. With minority votes representing an ever increasing percentage of the electorate, you can’t play to the GOP Base and win in the general election.

NPR covered this on the news this morning. Fucking Jeb said

“Over a period of time, they can have a legalized status that allows them to live a life of dignity,” Bush says, “but not necessarily a path to citizenship, so as to not create incentives for future people that aspire to come to our country to do so illegally when they could come legally.”

His idea of ‘a life of dignity’ does not include the right to political representation. Did we not have a fucking revolution over that? And why is ‘legalization’ not a ‘reward’, but citizenship is a reward? And why does legalization not provide an incentive for more immigrants, but citizenship would? Here’s a clue for the heartless bastard: it’s the economy, stupid. People come here for paying jobs, so they can support themselves and their families. The reward is already being offered, and you can’t stop it except by crashing the whole fucking economy, which hurts everyone (except you filthy rich Bushes and your ilk). It’s obvious he just doesn’t want immigrants to have a vote, because they would never vote for the fucking racist Republicans.

Here’s another thing he said:

Those who want to become citizens, Bush says, could go back to their country of origin and apply.

That’s not in quotes. He actually said they could easily go back to their country of origin and apply. That’s right. Easily return to a country they haven’t lived in since they were three, where they don’t know anyone, don’t speak the language, don’t have a job, then apply. While their family here struggles without them.

May I suggest you add the audio from NPR to your page? Thanks for posting this. If I had, I wouldn’t be able to use the ‘f’ word so much.

I’m not so much stunned as I am thoroughly disgusted.

True that. Romney really fucked up. He even lost Cuban-Americans in Florida. That one was really stunning to me.

Hey can I think out of the box here on illegal immigration. I am all for amnesty 100% but as a compromise how about all “illegals” get granted lifetime residency (aka Green card) but can never become US citizens (their kids could of course). Banning them from US citizenship for life (with the exception of citizenship granted for military service) is sucky to me but it would disarm the “take our country back” element and thus is a compromise solution that can be implemented right away.

That would be the only punishment - blocked from citizenship for life and maybe back taxes (though most illegals do pay taxes in one form or another or make too little to qualify for income tax while being illegal and doing honest work).

As someone who was born into a Green carded legal resident family I lived that and my parents came in legally.

I am “war gaming” a solution. What if I was the president over a divided legislature with a Republican cock blocking congress? How would I get something passed in a way that would disarm the GOP and the base on a wedge issue like this?

I am not really playing at what is the best policy in the ivory tower scenario. It’s a down and dirty policy that would split the GOP - disarm them with their own racism that the Hispanics will be taking over by easing the fear through denial of citizen for the illegal first generation population as “punishment” for entering illegally.

No, I don’t think offering a way to citizenship to people who have been living here, working here, paying taxes here, raising families here, is an ‘ivory tower scenario’. Until his fucking book came out, even Jeb Bush was in favor of citizenship. And now he’s back pedaling and being ‘maybe’ for it again. You are slitting somebody else’s throat in offering your dirty compromise.

One of the biggest fears the right wing racist jack-offs have is that the illegals are taking over the USA and amnesty would help that process along. It’s bullshit but we live in an age where the bullshit is treated as a reality.

If this GOP base - and on some things it can still be a force and obstruct laws - can be disarmed by telling them that the illegals will not have voting rights for life (kids and military service exceptions) then that would make the GOP, which is afraid of losing because of demographics become more pliable when this fear is abated by the “no citizenship” clause.

And the “no citizenship for life” clause would only apply to one generation of illegals not to their kids.

See, I am trying to think up of ways to work around GOP intransigence in such ways as painful as it is to my sensibilities.

Jeb Bush stated he wants these people to deport themselves and then re-applly to enter. How is my proposal granting instant green cards to the right of Jeb Bush who is for “self deportation”? WTF, man?

I specifically wrote “(kids and military service exceptions)”….

In other words, the children of the illegals who came to the USA when under 18 years of age would and could become US citizens. The very same illegals now granted green card residency if of age and ability could become citizens by joining the military. Children will have ZERO restriction on citizenship.
