Not sure if an article that starts off with Chavez’s piety really puts forward the impression you really want. Embracing his reforms puts the opposition that you hate so much in a stronger position.

Go ahead, try to defend a blatant censorship law like the “Law on Social Responsibility of Radio and Television” when it gets used by a resurgent opposition.

You act like Venezuela had a free and fair press before Chavez? In any case the airwaves belong to the people not to oligarchical monopolies. If the people’s govt found that the radio and television stations were being advocates for political parties rather than unbiased outlets of news then they have a right to shut them down.

FOX news gets away with what it gets away with because it is on cable TV. When the USA eliminated the fairness doctrine thanks to right wing meddling was it done for freedom of speech reasons or to push a right wing agenda of oligarchs.

So sorry, your guilt trip does not work.

Chavez was not perfect but he replaced an even worse govt that had to be rooted out by revolutionary means. The fact that Chavez’s social justice policies - the cornerstone of his revolution - will continue is his win that will go on after his death. Hell, those who come after him will probably implement his ideas more competently than he could but they will be his ideas moved forward not the ideas of the oligarchs who once controlled and raped Venezuela’s natural wealth for their own gains.

Why is it the government’s responsibility to determine what news is biased? VTV’s Alo Presidente was hardly BBC’s Question Time.

This “revolution” stuff is really corny coming from an ex-pat.

Oh my god this is beautiful. You’ve got to be a performance artist. This is fucking hysterical.

Does the newsprint belong to the people too, Destro? Should the government censor what’s printed if they find it politically objectionable? Especially, say, if they’re criticizing the president?

Chavez replaced a political ally who’d pardoned him. Why do you keep claiming he replaced a worse government?

This hero of the far left was a scoundrel. he knew how to play the pious “man of the people” whilst robbing them blind. One of the worlds great oil exporters had to scrimp and play the poor developing nation whilst the dictator amassed two billion dollars.

This darling of the anti American movement was nothing more than a well placed thief with charisma and convenient hyperbole. The whole thing reminds me of Yasser Arafat. Ripped off his own people and still enjoyed a popularity via lies and charisma.

He replaced an IMF enforcer.

Yea, and leftists are going to believe your rightwing propaganda from the nation that did Iraq. You sound like your trying to make sure no one converts and likes Chavez from your congregation rather than trying to sway leftists that the previous pro-American business Venezuelan oligarchies were good for Venezuela.

During his nearly 14 years of governance, elected to three full six-year terms but only serving two due to his untimely death, Chavez’s policies reduced extreme poverty in Venezuela by more than 75%, from 25% to less than 7% in a decade, according to statistics from the Center for Economic and Policy Research. And overall poverty was reduced by more than 50%, from 60% in 1998 when Chavez first won office to 27% by 2008. This is not just numbers, this translates into profound changes in the lives of millions of Venezuelans who today eat three meals a day, own their homes and have jobs or access to financial aid.

Why do you keep citing opinion pieces?

I did not link so much for opinion but to a Harvard peer reviewed study on poverty reduction in Venezuela that is in the opinion piece as a PDF.

Statistics from the Center for Economic and Policy Research

You would know that if you clicked the link, suckah.
